Course, I’m kind of a little more than biased. Read More →

Mormon Doctrine: The Purpose of Life
Recently, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had an international video contest. The following video was one of the contest winners. (We’ll be sharing more videos from the contest in future posts.) This video explains some of Mormon doctrine about the purpose of life, about the role Jesus Christ plays in God’s plan, and about our identity as children of God. Read more about Mormon doctrine on this topic at the following pages: The Purpose of Life: Mormon.org What is the purpose of my life? Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going? I guess it works to our advantage in a lot of cases though! And apparently Steven and I are “kind” but not “dear.” Oh, dear. Read More →
Mormons Believe in Being Honest
Recently, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held a video contest, and the following video about honesty was one of the winners. The situations portrayed relate to students and the principle of not cheating, but the principle of honesty is something that applies to every facet of our lives. President James E. Faust (1920-2007) is the speaker in the background of the video on honesty. (Read the text of his talk, Honesty — A Moral Compass“.) He reminds us that We all need to know what it means to be honest. Honesty is more than not lying. It is truth telling, truth speaking, truth living, and truth loving. … Honesty is a moral compass to guide us in our lives…. Honesty is a principle, and we have our moral agency to determine how we will apply this principle. We have the agency to make choices, but ultimately we will be accountable for each choice we make. We may deceive others, but there is One we will never deceive. From the Book of Mormon we learn,... Read the rest of this entry »
Joseph Smith, a Latter-day Prophet of God (videos)
We as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints honor Joseph Smith as a prophet of God. Today marks 167 years since he was martyred — killed by a mob in Carthage, Illinois. (Watch a motion picture about the life and mission of Joseph Smith.) John Taylor, who was present the day Joseph Smith was killed, wrote this: Joseph Smith, the aProphet and bSeer of the Lord, has done more, csave Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it. In the short space of twenty years, he has brought forth the Book of Mormon, which he translated by the gift and power of God, and has been the means of publishing it on two continents; has sent the dfulness of the everlasting gospel, which it contained, to the four quarters of the earth; has brought forth the revelations and commandments which compose this book of Doctrine and Covenants, and many other wise documents and instructions for the benefit of the children of men; gathered... Baby Steps
For the past couple of days I’ve noticed that Cassie has wanted to start taking steps on her own. I carried the camera around with me most of the day today attempting to capture her first step. I failed. But my perseverance did help me capture this: WPFP(document).ready(function() { //load player $f("saiweb_01a92f523f8e22b5d354df4a0c1c15b6", "/wp-content/plugins/word-press-flow-player/flowplayer/gpl/flowplayer-3.1.5.swf", { plugins: { controls: { sliderGradient: 'none', progressGradient: 'medium', backgroundGradient: 'none', bufferGradient: 'none', opacity:1.0 } }, clip: { url:'http://adashot.me/wp-uploads/2011/06/CassieWalk.avi', autoPlay: false, autoBuffering: false }, canvas: { backgroundColor:'' }}) }); Don’t mind the shakiness, the half-dressed Aurora (she had just decided that she wanted to switch “pants” with her Doggy,...
Read More →
Earthquake,Tsunami, and Nuclear Fears in Japan
Yesterday I read as the governor of Tokyo apologized on Tuesday for saying the earthquake and resulting tsunami that left thousands dead were divine punishment for Japanese egoism. “I will take back (the remark) and offer a deep apology,” Tokyo Gov. Shintaro Ishihara said at a Tuesday news conference, according to Japan’s Kyodo News. On Monday, Ishihara had told reporters, “I think (the disaster) is tembatsu (divine punishment), although I feel sorry for disaster victims.” After reading that on CNN.com I thought of a passage in the Bible: There were present at that season some who told Him of the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And Jesus answering said unto them, “Suppose ye that these Galileans were sinners above all the other Galileans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, nay; but unless ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Or those eighteen upon whom the tower of Siloam fell and slew them, think ye that they... Read the rest of this entry »
BYU Honor Code
A friend suggested this video as a very positive one about the BYU Honor Code. I was really impressed to see how positively they were talking about it. It is a tribute to the values for which Brigham Young University (BYU) and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church) stand for. What seems impossible and unrealistic to many, it is actually possible. This is the video ESPN BYU Honor Code Reasons for the BYU Code Brigham Young University, Brigham Young University—Hawaii, Brigham Young University—Idaho, and LDS Business College exist to provide an education in an atmosphere consistent with the ideals and principles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That atmosphere is created and preserved through commitment to conduct that reflects those ideals and principles. Members of the faculty, administration, staff, and student body at BYU, BYU—Hawaii, BYU—Idaho, and LDSBC are selected and retained from among those who voluntarily live the principles... Making My Day
Sometimes all it takes is a kind word, a sincere compliment or a smile from a baby to turn my day around. A few days ago as I was walking home from school with my kids I saw something that made me very happy. My neighbor’s tree was budding. Not only budding, but was already beginning to flower. My mind instantaneously started singing the words to a popular primary song we sing in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Popcorn Popping. Here are the words: I looked out the window and what did I see? Popcorn popping on the apricot tree. Spring has brought me such a nice surprise Popcorn popping right before my eyes. I can take an armful and make a treat. A popcorn ball that would smell so sweet. I wasn’t really so, but it seemed to me! Popcorn popping on the apricot tree. Spring is coming! Today I found some things online that had the same effect on me as my neighbor’s budding tree. They are videos about four different Mormon Women who are sharing with the world...
