Ezekiel and Head Line News

Posted by On August - 10 - 2011

I’ll apologize in advance that this post will be somewhat doom and gloom. But read on, and you’ll know why. My journey through the Old Testament is winding down. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the experience, but for one problem: I read books like Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel, and my teeth are set on edge. I read about ancient Israel, and their state of apostasy, and the dire warnings of the Lord if they didn’t change their ways (they didn’t, BTW) and the high price they paid. And, knowing the equally dire warnings about the state of affairs in the Latter days, I kind of shudder. I underline verse after verse, and make myself notes, looking for patterns. I know that even though the Law of Moses was fulfilled in Christ, Christ continues to govern His people according to the same principles as always. As always, there is no substitute for obedience to commandments, even though it is by Grace we are saved. My notes go something like this: “The... Read the rest of this entry »

The Outlet Mall? (Gulp!)

Posted by On February - 26 - 2011

I like a great bargain as much as the next girl, but I am not a fan of shopping in general. There are too many choices – and I always seem get the dressing room furnished with the circus mirror. This Christmas I won a gift card to a fancy department store at my husband’s work party.  I had been inside this store three in my life – never once buying anything. This particular store had an outlet  Read More →

♫ ♪ I Found You Christmas! ♪ ♫

I know that you will be shocked to see that I have written a blog post two days in a row . . . something that I haven’t done for a while.  Well, I hope to get back into the swing of writing here more frequently for those of you that do read it.  Things have just been quite busy the last month with my becoming one of the district leaders here in the Referral Center and with everything going on during the Christmas season.  However, that is one thing that I love about my mission: being busy and always having something to do to further the work that Christ has given us.  As I have strived to do my best in every task and opportunity that I am given, I have seen how Heavenly Father has blessed me to accomplish these things in at time and a manner that I know I wouldn’t be able to do without His help.  I have definitely seen that over the past month with everything that I have been doing. I thought I would go ahead and write about my Christmas experience before... Read the rest of this entry »

Come Unto Christ

Posted by On December - 24 - 2010

What a wonderful day it is to consider together our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ.  I’m grateful to partake of the sacrament with you and to renew my covenant to remember him and to follow him.  I’m not sure that I really understood the significance of that covenant when I first took it upon myself at age eight. I’m still trying to understand what it means to really keep that covenant each day.  Some days I do better than others.  Sundays are a joy to me because I spend them in activities that are centered on the mission of the church – to invite all to come unto Christ.  It’s during the week that I sometimes struggle to remember Him. I suppose it’s a life-long pursuit, isn’t it? – To figure out how to really come unto Christ as we have been commanded to do. As Moroni taught, “Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness … love God with all your might, mind and strength …” – Moroni 10:32 Another Book of... Read the rest of this entry »

Can I Endure Like Him?

Posted by On November - 17 - 2010

Just the other day, I was looking through the Hymn book, and I came across Hymn number 191 “Behold, the Great Redeemer Die.”  I have sung this song many times during my lifetime, but there was just something about this certain time that really struck me about it.  I don’t know if it was just the fact that I was more in-tune with the Spirit or what, but the words just seemed to jump out of the page and into my mind and heart.  I just wanted to share some of my thoughts about this with you.  As you continue reading, I found this fantastic piano arrangement of this song that you can enjoy.   1.       Behold the great Redeemer die, A broken law to satisfy. He dies a sacrifice for sin, He dies a sacrifice for sin, That man may live and glory win. 2.       While guilty men his pains deride, They pierce his hands and feet and side; And with insulting scoffs and scorns, And with insulting scoffs and... Read the rest of this entry »

Food . . . we can’t live without it, but many times I think we wish that it wouldn’t taste so good or look quite so appetizing.  I know that for me I have always enjoyed eating a good meal.  And as I was reviewing Elder Jairo Mazzagardi’s talk from this past General Conference, I kept thinking about food and how it can totally apply to the idea that Elder Mazzagardi discusses.  His talk is entitled “Avoiding the Trap of Sin,” and he says, “We must be alert because small choices can bring great consequences, just as going to bed early and waking up early have great consequences.  Doctrine teaches us, “Arise early, that your bodies and your minds may be invigorated.” Those who go to bed early wake up rested, with the body and mind invigorated and blessed by the Lord because of obedience.”  He clearly illustrates how little things can make a huge difference in our lives each day, and to me, this ties perfectly into our eating habits and food... Read the rest of this entry »

To continue on with my posts about the talks from this past, most recent General Conference, I have chosen another talk to continue to apply to myself, and I hope that you will all be able to get something out of it as well!  The talk that I have chosen today to reflect on is by Elder Patrick Kearon from the Priesthood Session of General Conference.  I got to hear this talk in person since I had the chance to go and sing in a choir from the MTC for this session, and it was also an amazing experience to be there and sing as well as listen to the talks of men called by God in person.  If you would like to read more about this experience, just take a look at High School Musical 4: Prophets and Apostles! Elder Kearon’s main message was about how we will make mistakes throughout our lives, but we can always be cleansed and become pure through the sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ.  He started off by telling a story about one time when he was young, and he didn’t... Read the rest of this entry »

The Devil Made Me Do It Again!

Posted by On October - 4 - 2010

Just a little reminder that we must yield to the enticings of the Holy Spirit and become submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love and so forth. Also remember that Paul tells Galatians that the fruits of the Spirit are love, peace, joy, patience, kindness and so forth. All kinds of good things. Even when we feel hurt or have difficult matters to discuss, we will always be more successful with a patient and loving approach, trying to remember to foster love for all of our brothers and sisters. That is what the Lord expects of us, but that will be a lifetime project for any one of us.  Read More →
