This Made Me So Mad I Cried

Posted by On February - 23 - 2012

This site is not commercialized nor do I use it to push any political party or candidate. It would take a tremendous amount to get me to break my own rules. I am so alarmed by what went down at the Supreme Court level – and so shocked anyone would attempt it. Whatever religion you are, and even if you’re non-religiious, this will rattle your cage. Pay particular attention when Romney explains what happened when the Supreme Court voted Obama down 9-0. YES, EVEN THE LIBERAL JUSTICES VOTED OBAMA DOWN. His proposal was that outrageous. I apologize for the short commercial at the beginning. It’s from CNN, and I do not benefit in any way from the ad. PLEASE PASS THIS LINK OR VIDEO ON!  Read More →

Ron Paul Stuffed Pasta Shells

Posted by On February - 18 - 2012

Ron Paul Quick'n Easy Stuffed Pasta Shells Since receiving a copy of The Ron Paul Family Cookbook, Adelaide has made Oreo Cake, Original Chocolate Chip Cookies, Banana Nut Bread, Orange Rolls, and now Ron Paul Quick’n Easy Stuffed Pasta Shells. If you have the cookbook, the recipe is found on page 5. Adelaide says: I halved the recipe, and still had half of them left over. They were really rich and filling. I paired it with breadsticks and a salad, and it made for a fairly quick and delicious dinner. I especially liked the part in the recipe that gave directions for making this as a freezer meal. I think I’ll freeze half of them the next time I make it. Photo Credit: Adelaide of Ada Shot Me  Read More →

Gay marriage, another personal take

Posted by On February - 12 - 2012

As someone else already pointed out, marriage ceremony was always between one man and one woman in Judeo-Christian culture, although one man could end up with more than one living wife in several cultures in history (including The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) up to the turn of the 20th century). Ron Paul Oreo Cake

Posted by On February - 12 - 2012

Ron Paul Oreo Cake Since giving a copy of The Ron Paul Family Cookbook to Adelaide, she has made Original Chocolate Chip Cookies, Banana Nut Bread, Orange Rolls, and now Ron Paul Oreo Cake. If you have the cookbook, the recipe for Oreo Cake is found on page 1. Adelaide says: I made the Oreo Cake for the treat for Family Home Evening. I actually halved the recipe because I only had one container of Cool Whip, then I divided that in half to take over with dinner to a neighbor who just had a baby. So I ultimately made a quarter of the recipe for us. It was very tasty, reminding me of mud pie. It was a fun change from just plain pudding, and was the perfect size for our small family. Ron Paul Cookies

Posted by On February - 6 - 2012

Ron Paul Original Chocolate Chip Cookies coming out of the oven Since giving a copy of The Ron Paul Family Cookbook to Adelaide, she has made Banana Nut Bread, Orange Rolls, and now Ron Paul Original Chocolate Chip Cookies. Ron Paul Original Chocolate Chip Cookies Cream the following ingredients: 1 cup Crisco 1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup brown sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla Dissolve 1 tsp. baking soda in 1 tbsp. hot water and mix with: 2¼ cups flour 1 tsp. salt 1 cup chopped nuts 1 large bag chocolate chips Drop by teaspoon on cookie sheet and bake at 350° for 10 minutes. Adelaide says: I made the cookies a few nights ago. I didn’t add nuts, and I only put one regular sized bag of chocolate chips (opposed to the large bag it calls for), but they seemed to turn out rather well. The recipe made 4 dozen large cookies, and we ate 2 dozen that night, another dozen yesterday, and I sent the last dozen with Steven to work today. Overall, I think they were a big hit. How to countenance a situation that can’t be countenanced? I started thinking about that again as I was reading the updated biography of Nelson Mandela by Anthony Sampson (updated by John Battersby, pub. 2011). First of all, there is the kind of racism that, while stepping on your toes, isn’t about running you completely to [...]  Read More →

Romneynews

I’ve watched the Republican primary battles with great interest. I follow presidential politics closely each cycle, and have been doubly intrigued to have prominent LDS candidates in the hunt. It has been interesting, of course, to see how the press and other candidates deal with Romney’s LDS faith. This article which appeared in today’s Detroit Free Press (my local paper) caught my attention: Mitt Romney’s run for president spurs interest in Mormon faithIt’s a pretty favorable story – as most stories on the church are in the Free Press. There’s a sidebar in the paper that also comments on Romney’s father’s faith and its role in his political career: Mormon faith helped George Romney decide to run for governor of MichiganIt’s inevitable that the church will turn up in conversations about Romney. I think at the face-to-face level with friends, most church members are happy to help clarify issues of facts around the church’s beliefs, as the Free Press article... Read the rest of this entry »

I couldn’t believe what I read in a recent article, coming from a pastor who claims to be Christian and supporting Rick Santorum.  Here’s the quote: In obedience to the Judeo-Christian Scriptures, most South Carolinans and I have a sane and healthy homophobia, while Mitt Romney has a very bad case of homophilia,” said Mills in a joint statement with fellow pastor, Rev. Ray Moore, according to The Hill. “Romney’s liberal support for homosexuality is not only at doctrinal odds with traditional Judaism and Christianity, it’s even at odds with latter-day cults like Islam and Mormonism. I hope that this is just a fringe Christian wing-nut who doesn’t represent the way most Christians feel about people who struggle with homosexuality. Despite registering an impressive third place finish with 17 percent of the vote in the New Hampshire Republican primary, Jon Huntsman Jr. dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination on January 16th, 2012. Furthermore, Huntsman also endorsed Mitt Romney, characterizing him as the man best equipped to defeat Barack Obama in the fall. In his statement to supporters, Huntsman added that he will continue to fight for a tax code that unleashes opportunity rather than stifles it; an energy policy that ends our addiction to foreign oil; congressional term limits; education reform that prepares kids for the 21st Century; and financial reform that protects taxpayers from future bailouts. The decision was triggered by distinct signs that Huntsman’s performance in New Hampshire was a fluke. Polls indicate Huntsman was back down in single-digit territory in South Carolina, finishing either fifth or sixth, and despite pouring at least $2 million of his own money into the... Read the rest of this entry »

Dear Dr. Hendricks, I write this letter to you in the spirit of supreme annoyance sir, for your recent comments in the Religion section of the Huffington Post have driven me to take actions I find personally revolting:  Come to the defense of Mitt Romney.  You see Mr. Hendricks, unlike Governor Romney, I am both a liberal and a Democrat, who would like nothing better to see President Obama be reelected this year.  That said, Brother Romney and I have one thing in common, that I cannot, under any circumstances, overlook:  We are both committed members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a religion whose beliefs you have attacked in your article.  Thus your actions have put me in a most distasteful position. You open your piece with a statement that, when read in light of the article of the rest of the article, is most disingenuous.  You state “I’m pretty much a live-and-let-live guy.  In fact, I don’t believe in religious litmus tests of any kind.  Frankly I... Read the rest of this entry »

In New York Harbor there stands the statue of a lady, whose name is Liberty, and within her base lies an inscription that, depending on how you look at it, is either one of the most inspiring expositions of American idealism, or one of the greatest pieces of unintentional irony ever carved in stone.  The statement, by Emma Lazarus, is as follows: “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” Considering the current atmosphere of anti-immigrant hysteria, in light of our nation’s history of less-than-welcoming behavior toward the newly arrived other (No Irish Need Apply, anyone?) I wonder some times if Ms. Lazarus penned these words to shame us collectively into better behavior, as if we might compare our personal pettiness with the ideals outlined in those words and find ourselves wanting.  If so, I fear the... Read the rest of this entry »

Good and Evil — Thinking of Moral Philosophy

Posted by On January - 4 - 2012

I must stress my disclaimers here, especially: These thoughts are my own, if by nothing else, my adopting them because they make sense and sound right. Also, I am by no means an official representative of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Just a member with a few decades of experience on local/district [...]  Read More →
