A Mother’s Guilt

Posted by On July - 22 - 2011

Do you ever feel like the worst mom ever even when you did nothing wrong?  You do something to help your little one, even though it will cause them pain, in the end it helps.  Like getting fillings put in at the dentist, vaccinations, tubes in ears, or even tonsils coming out.  Well, if it’s for the best, why do we feel so blasted guilty! Nephi had a rough night last night and woke up ever 2 1/2 hours like clock work crying for more pain medication.  This morning his swelling had grown and was now in his chin.  I called the oral specialist and he wanted to see him right away.  So I took him in, they did a few x-rays and told me the infection had put a lot of pressure on his nerves and teeth and that they should drain out some of the infection and put a little tube in there to help the infection drain out and lessen the pressure.  Anything to make my little guy feel better.  Only they had to put him out to do it and they gave him an IV.  Nephi... Read the rest of this entry »

The Mysterious Bump

Posted by On July - 21 - 2011

Yesterday at dinner, Nephi was complaining about his food and told us that his tooth hurt and he didn’t want to eat.  I just thought he was making up excuses and ignored him.  Sam is always making up excuses not to eat what I cook, like he thought he saw a bug in it or something, and I figured he was just rubbing off on Nephi. But last night around midnight I was woken up by Nephi crying in his room.  He kept saying that his mouth hurt.  So I gave him some Tylenol and he went to sleep.  Then a few hours later he was crying again.  This time I sent Ben in to snuggle and comfort him and then a couple hours later he was crying again.  But this time I noticed that the right side of his jaw was swollen and there was like this bump there.  My first thought was his tooth was bad or something and he screamed when I touched his tooth.  So I waited until the dentist office opened and I gave them a call.  Luckily, they had had a cancellation... Read the rest of this entry »

As we come to reflect on the reading of the Book of Mormon, we come to the basic understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This basic premise is on the idea that as Latter-day Saints, we are called to obey the ordinances, commandments, and principles of theRestored Gospel. To those who are outside of theLatter-day Saint Faith, [...]  Read More →

Scripture is very clear and precise when it comes to the most basic elements of truth. One such prevailing truth is being obedient. Obedient to what and to whom is one that we have to answer. This answer comes to Nephi, … Continue reading →  Read More →

If a person truly desires to know the truth, truly desires to come to know their Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, it is not through books, philosophy, or the understanding of human thinking. It is through the humbling of one’s heart. … Continue reading →  Read More →

One of the most interesting things I have taken notice in the Book of Mormon is the 1 Nephi 1:5 -Wherefore it came to pass that my father, Lehi, as he went forth prayed unto the Lord, yea, even with all his heart, … Continue reading →  Read More →

1 Nephi 1:1 Nephi shares with us a unique perspective. He sums up his life experience with the following statement: … having seen many afflictions in the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days; … Continue reading →  Read More →

Stinky Feet

Posted by On May - 3 - 2011

Last night, Nephi slept in his tennis shoes with no socks on. You know where I am going with this right? When he took those shoes off this morning, I feared the smoke detectors would go off!  It was worse than bad… the whole apartment stunk up before I could get those feet cleaned.  And even after soap and water, then a baby wipe, followed by lotion… they still smelled really bad! The boys of course think it is hilarious!  Someone once told me that redhead have the worst body odor.  Of course, I didn’t believe that for one second!!  Now… I am wondering if there really is some truth to that. I am gagging as I have to hold him down to cut those toenails!  Good grief!  I think the Discovery Channel may want to do a show on the life forms that may be found under those things! Oh the sweet joys of motherhood!  (can you “smell” the sarcasm?) I am trying to breath here… The baby is crying… And the... Read the rest of this entry »

Characters and Other Adventures

Posted by On May - 2 - 2011

So it’s been a while since I posted something more on the personal side… Sorry about that. Things have been a little crazy around here.  New baby, spring cleaning, out of town visitors, finals, etc.  You know how it is.  Stress.  And not a whole lot of internet time… I will tell you, the hardest thing about having 3 kids is transporting them around.  Going to the store… the stuff nightmares are made of.  All I can say is, thank heaven for Smith’s Marketplace and their little daycare — even if they do call me over the intercom every 15 min for potty time.  So worth the few minutes of peace I get! Is it just me, or is it hard to get all your needs in one shopping trip due to the limited space in your shopping cart when you have baby carrier!  I see lots of mom’s with slings, but my little guy doesn’t like those and I hate waking him up to stick him in one.  What do you do? On another note:  my... Read the rest of this entry »

Discoveries

Posted by On February - 19 - 2011

I don’t think I have ever known a 3 year old who is as curious as my Nephi.  My oldest, Sam, was always very mechanical and computer savvy and liked to see how things worked, but Nephi is a bit different.  He will study things out he doesn’t understand and then won’t let it go until he does!  At times this curiosity can be admired and at other times, VERY inconvenient! Here a couple examples of both of these situations just this week: Example #1:  Nephi came into my room holding a hand mirror.  ”Mommy,” he said.  ”I’m sick.” “You’re sick?  What’s wrong?” I said feeling his forehead — he didn’t feel hot or anything. “I have spots on my face.”  I looked and didn’t see anything new. “Where are your spots, sweetheart?” I asked.  He pointed to his freckles. “Lot’s of brown spots, mommy.  I need medicine.”... Read the rest of this entry »

I Don’t Remember Signing Up for This!

Posted by On January - 22 - 2011

When you are planning to start a family, your thoughts are full of precious moments waiting to be had.  Fantasies of little people in car seats, baby swings, that new crib that took you 4 hours to put together only because your husband claimed that directions were only for people who didn’t know what they were doing.  That first baby fills your thoughts and dreams as you wash and rewash all those little clothes you can’t wait to see a little body fill.  Mommies-to-be dream of teaching their kids to cook, clean and do crafts.  We mommies look forward to the funny things that child will say someday, holding them when they get an ouchie, or reading to them at night. Daddies anxiously await playing catch, camping, and a good excuse to play legos, blocks and go trick-or-treating again. Rarely if ever, you dream of vomit, green snot rockets, spaghetti-o’s on the celling.  You don’t think about diaper blowouts in the car... Read the rest of this entry »
