LDS Media Library — Videos

~by Marsha Our world is becoming more and more visual and audio centered. We love to see and feel the spirits of those who are far removed from us and how they handle their lives. We YouTube, we FaceBook, we Email and we share abundantly. Now the Church of Jesus Christ has founded a site that feeds that hunger in flying colours. Now and again we’ll find something in a talk, or a General Conference session that just rings so true that we want more of it. For me, the story of President Cook’s young woman’s purse hit home hard.  I wrote my own little poem about it. Now there are hundreds of similar short stories, ideas and experiences put to stunning music and photography by the media department all at our fingertips. The first video I happened upon was about the purpose of life. A young man named Isaiah shared his search and how he found something that changed his life. http://lds.org/media-library/video/truth-restored?lang=eng#2009-04-036-purpose-of-life-isaiah “If you... Read the rest of this entry »

~by Michelle The moral standards of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are high. We believe in abstinence before marriage and complete fidelity after. Sexual purity is a big deal. In a world where sexuality is treated more like a right than a responsibility, teaching and encouraging chastity can be a real challenge. And often, youth will then wonder, “How far can we go before we have done something wrong?” This video, created by Mormon Messages for Youth, addresses that question in a creative way, helping youth think carefully and prayerfully about how to avoid sexual sin. I like how much of the video focuses on taking the specific counsel from prophets of God, and then leaning on God for guidance and help in setting and committing to personal moral standards.  Read More →

Book of Mormon Video

Posted by On May - 20 - 2011

The Book of Mormon is the word of God, like the Bible. It is Holy Scripture, with form and content similar to that of the Bible. Both books contain God’s guidance as revealed to prophets as well as religious histories of different civilizations. While the Bible is written by and about the people in the land of Israel and surrounding areas, and takes place from the creation of the world until shortly after the death of Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon contains the history and God’s dealings with the people who lived in the Americas between approximately 600 BC and 400 AD. In the video below, a living Apostle explains what the Book of Mormon is and how anyone can know that it is true. I have a testimony of the Book of Mormon, and this means that I have read the book, and thought about its teaching, and prayed about it, and I know by the power of the Holy Ghost that is a true book, written by ancient prophets. The Book of Mormon contains the word of God, and if we live by its... Read the rest of this entry »

Mormons Believe: We are all children of God   ~by Michelle I’ll never forget when I first discovered that my (then) very young song son knew the Primary song, “I am a Child of God.” He could barely talk, but he could sing this song. This is the first song in the Children’s Songbook of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (It’s also in our book of hymns.) I think there is a reason that it comes first in the songbook — because it is a foundational truth in our faith. There is probably nothing that matters to me more than having my children understand that they are children of a loving Heavenly Father. And I know how much this simple truth helps me in my life. I was just talking to my sister yesterday about how when I know and feel God’s love for and awareness of me, it makes all the difference. I can face my challenges with more faith and strength and patience. I can make choices with more deliberateness and focus. I can teach my... Read the rest of this entry »

I am really excited to see the new version of the movie about Joseph Smith. When I first arrived to the US  (in 2001) I went several times to watch the movie The Testaments, one of my favorite movies ever. When they finally released the Joseph Smith movie I thought that it could not be better than The Testaments, but I was actually impressed by the new movie. I have not decided yet which one is better, but the few things I have heard about the new version make me feel that I will probably like it even more now. According to LdsMediaTalk, This is the first full-length motion picture the Church has released on the Internet. It is a revised version of the film that has been shown since 2005 in the Joseph Smith Building in Salt Lake City and in 19 visitors’ centers around the world. The revisions are to make it more easily understood by a wider audience, now that it is available to everyone online. Ron Munns, who produced the original film, said, “The first Joseph Smith film was excellent... Read the rest of this entry »

Meet Mormon Women: Yvette

Posted by On December - 30 - 2010

Editor’s note: One purpose of this Mormon Women website is to let people “meet” LDS women to find out more about who we are, what we believe, and how we live. In our “Meet Mormon Women” series, we’ll introduce you to some LDS women by sharing some Mormon.org profiles and videos. Yvette is a single LDS woman who loves being a middle school math teacher. She received an award for excellence in science and math teaching. She notes that “There isn’t a cookie-cutter way to be a Mormon.” Her faith helps bring structure to her life. She is an avid sports fan and loves being an aunt. Hear more from Yvette in the following Mormon.org video [which can also be found on the Church's Mormon Messages YouTube channel]. You can read Yvette’s Mormon.org profile as well. Meet more Mormons at mormon.org/people or on the MormonMessages YouTube Channel.  Read More →

Children and youth participate in this video to tell the Christmas story. They talk of prophecies of Old Testament prophets such as Isaiah and Micah, as well as Book of Mormon prophets such as Nephi (who was a prophet about 600 years before Christ’s birth), Samuel the Lamanite (who prophesied of Christ’s birth and the signs that appeared on the American continent at the time of Christ’s birth), and Alma (who was one of the many Book of Mormon prophets who spoke of the Savior’s coming and His atoning sacrifice). It’s beautiful to hear the children and youth in this video share the nativity story, as well as their faith in Jesus Christ and His mission — and what that means for us. The video ends with these words from one of the youth: “As you picture Christmas this year, remember that Christ’s life and atonement are the greatest gifts we could ever have, and the best gift we can give to Christ is to try to live like Him.” Video: “Picture... Read the rest of this entry »
