There are a lot of blogs out there written by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (“Mormons”), and we hope to share a few of them here. This blog, “Particles of Faith” includes personal stories and insights from several Latter-day Saint women. What we like about these posts is how they capture some of the simple ways they have felt and seen God’s hand in their lives, and simple ways that our faith as Mormon women impacts our lives. For example, read about a young Mormon couple’s process of making hard decisions about their education and job situation. Or read about how a broken washing machine actually ended up being a blessing. This short post reflects on the Biblical story of Mary and Martha. And this post shares a realization a Mormon woman had about the Savior, Jesus Christ, as she prepared a visiting teaching message. And this beautiful post testifies of specific ways this woman felt God was aware of her needs. Take a wander.... Read the rest of this entry »

BYU Campus Education Week
Thousands of Mormons (members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) are enjoying the hundreds of classes offered at a yearly event at Brigham Young University called Campus Education Week. This year’s theme is “Teach One Another Words of Wisdom.” “Originally called “Leadership Week,” Campus Education Week was first held in 1922. The focus of that first conference was on LDS Church leadership training. Since that time, the focus has broadened, adding classes for every aspect of life, as well as classes specifically for the youth.” Read more in this Deseret News article about Campus Education Week. The Book of Mormon: A life-changing book
By Amanda I read a blog post by a friend recently in which the author talked about the different books that have changed her life. My first thought was that I should do a post like that. I am, after all, a big reader. I love to read. I spend time reading everyday without fail. Certainly my list of life-changing books would be long. So, I sat down and started making a list. Much to my surprise, all I could come up with was: One. The Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon has been a spiritual guide for me. It is a companion to the Holy Bible and has deepened my understanding of all scripture. It is a testament of Jesus Christ, and I have gained a true testimony of Him in the pages of this book. I’ve learned about His prophets and His life. I’ve found answers to questions in its pages. I’ve gained peace and comfort from it’s pages. When I’m reading it regularly, I am a better wife and mother. And that for me is life-changing. Read More →
Add your profile to Mormon.org
I haven’t been this excited about something the church has done in a long time. Don’t get me wrong. I love the blessings of being involved in church activity each week, especially as I watch the young single adults grow and develop (I serve in the Bishopric of a YSA ward). But for me, this is probably the single most exciting development I have seen come from Salt Lake City in many years. I’m talking about the new Mormon.org, a complete redesign of the companion website to lds.org, the two main websites of the Mormon church. Since I make a living with computers in IT support, I have been watching the church embrace and use technology for my entire adult life. In the early nineties I wondered for a long time when the church would finally get a website. When they did, it took me a while to not think that it was just a little bit behind the times even when it was new. I felt the same way when Mormon.org first came out. But with release 4.0 of the site,... Read the rest of this entry »
Faith of Our Fathers, Faith in Our Father
I trudged on the treadmill, gritting my teeth, fighting tears. The workout wasn’t pushing me to my limits. Life was. I could almost feel physical sensations of my soul being stretched. I reached up not only to God within my heart; I reflected on the faith of those who have gone before, a faith that strengthens my own. Sometimes I will look at the photos of noble ancestors on my wall in times like this. But on this night, there were no faces in mind, just the whole of all the pioneer stories wrapped together. In remembering them, I felt could keep moving, keep walking, keep keeping the faith. I have realized as I reflect on the lives and sacrifices of the Mormon pioneers that the specifics of our journeys don’t really matter — not because the details of our personal pain and triumphs are insignificant, but simply because we all have our trails to blaze, we all have our trials to face. Our stories may differ, but the principles that can help us all are the same. I so often... Read the rest of this entry »
Mormon Messages for Youth: “Significant in Every Way”
We have shared several Mormon Messages videos here at Mormon Women. Did you know that there are also Mormon Messages for Youth? For example, in this video, an LDS young woman from South Africa shares a poem she wrote entitled “Significant in Every Way.” As described on YouTube, the poem “celebrates the divine nature of young women as daughters of God and encourages them to be examples to others.” Read More →
Meeting the Prophet on the Roadside in Gila Valley
~by Becky Seeing the prophet’s jet heading towards the Safford airport caused great excitement! It’s the little white line at the top of the mountain. We had made signs to welcome the prophet and got construction barricades for the signs to be put on. We heard the news that the prophet would be landing around 2:00 so we decided to wait at the end of my in-laws drive way so we could wave to him as he drove by. We had no idea that we were in for the treat of a lifetime! Here comes his slew of cars…. The prophet instructed his driver to pull over. It almost caused the cars behind his to rear end each other. You can imagine our AWE when the cars pulled over. I had been told to take lots of good pictures so I ran closer thinking they might get out and wave to us then get back in their cars. Imagine my excitement seeing the prophet walking towards us. He was telling us to stay there and he would come to us, he didn’t want us in the road. By great chance I happened to... My Father
By Amanda D (Me with my dad at a petting zoo, circa 1982 or 1983) One of my favorite memories is from when I was a little girl – I’m wearing a dress that my mom made me, my hair is curly and I’m standing on my dad’s toes. He’s wearing jeans and tee-shirt (a red one with a fish on it that reads “Every man must believe in something, I believe I’ll go fishing.”) and he is dancing me around the kitchen while singing the alphabet song. This is the way that I learned my ABC’s. We danced and he sang over and over again. Looking back, I see how much I learned from my father. He’s an attorney by trade. He taught me how important education is. He taught me how to work hard and how to play hard. He taught me the importance of being together as a family, too. People always assumed that since he was an attorney, we were well off financially. My dad worked in his own practice, going to work at eight in the morning and coming home at five. His evenings and weekends were always available... Read the rest of this entry »
Fathers and Sons – Video
This is a great video showing how the relationship between a father and son was strengthened when the teenage son made deliberate efforts to implement counsel given by an apostle, Elder M. Russell Ballard. Read More →
Teenagers aren’t Scary!
Teenagers get a bad rap. I love my teenager, and not just because I’m her Mom and I have to. When I was pregnant with my daughter I told everyone that I hoped I was having a boy. Looking into the future I didn’t think I could handle being the mother of a teenage daughter – all those hormones, boys, and friend issues – a minefield for a parent. I knew how I was as a teenager, and I did not want to deal with that! Now that I’m in the middle of it, it is not the horror I feared. It’s probably because my daughter isn’t just ‘some teenager,’ she’s my daughter. The baby who somehow survived my first feeble attempts at buckling her into a carseat. The little girl who rode her first bike with slippers on because it was softer to pedal that way. The girl who moved across the country right before 6th grade and never got mad at her parents for it, despite the difficulty. And now she is the teenager who gets up at 5 am every school day to attend seminary (religious education). Yes,... Read the rest of this entry »
A Website for the Average Mormon
I’ve been reading the arguments on MormonThink.com off and on for several years now. I have a lot of respect for the individuals behind the site, even though most of them choose to be anonymous. I am confident that I have been visited by several of the contributors there or at least by those who read their site and others like it such as Ex Mormon and Post Mormon. I am by no means a scholar or intellectual. I think I’m pretty smart and that I’m pretty good with logic. After all, I have made a living for thirty years demystifying computers for others. But I know there are a lot of people out there who are smarter than I am and who have the academic credentials to prove it. I like to think that I’m just a regular, average, typical Latter-day Saint. I like smart, thinking people and especially people who present logical conclusions well, either in writing or verbally. Critical thinking is a skill that I am constantly striving to improve. I confess that I am impressed... Read the rest of this entry »
