Written by Amanda Keating, a BYU student, studying a volume of scripture known as the Pearl of Great Price, which is written by prophets; members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints “Mormons” revere it as sacred text. This post comes from a book within the Pearl of Great Price known as The Book of Moses; it is an extraction from the translation of the Bible as revealed to Joseph Smith the Prophet, June 1830—February 1831. Heavenly Father Knows Us All In a book of scripture, known as the Pearl of Great Price, Moses was shown the world by the very creator himself, Jesus Christ, and during this time he realized, to a degree, how insignificant he and all of mankind are compared to the greatness and many works of God (See Moses Chapter 1). This idea is supported by Moses saying “And for this cause I know that man is nothing, which thing I never had supposed” (see Moses 1:10). However, before Moses was shown some of the creations of God, He... Read the rest of this entry »

I Believe In Christ: Are Mormons Christian?
by Nora Hess Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, frequently nicknamed “Mormons,” are avid followers of Christ. A scripture from The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ, which is the religious record of an ancient native people who lived in the Americas for thousands of years both before and after Christ’s birth, puts it this way: And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins (The Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 25:26) A typical Mormon does indeed spend much time every day talking of Christ, studying His words, expressing gratitude and praying to the Father in Christ’s name, thinking about Him, and teaching children and others about Him. Every week during Sunday meetings, committed Mormons partake of the sacrament, where they promise God... Read the rest of this entry »

The Second Coming of Jesus Christ
Just after Jesus Christ ascended into heaven after His resurrection, angels proclaimed to His disciples that He would return again one day to reign on the earth for 1,000 years. From that time to this, Christians throughout the world have eagerly awaited His return. The period of time just preceding Christ’s return is called the “last days.” It is the specified time, period, or age in which the necessary prerequisites to the Second Coming will occur. The Last Days The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (inadvertently referred to at times as “The Mormon Church” by the media) teaches that we are now living in the last days. The last days are the days of the dispensation of the fullness of times that is referred to in Ephesians 1:10, when God will gather together in one all things in Christ. Through Joseph Smith, the founding prophet of Mormonism, all the truth that was made known to all the holy prophets since the world began has been gathered together... Read the rest of this entry »
Ways to Measure if you have Charity (Christ’s Love)
Last week’s article was about how to develop Charity (which we identified is the pure love of Christ) in one’s life. This week, I thought it would be appropriate to share how you can measure the extent that you have Christ’s love in your heart. These suggestions were given by members of our Stake Presidency on how to measure if one has pure love, or charity in their heart: 1. You feel a sincere desire to help others 2. Praying daily for charity 3. Looking for opportunities to serve, first within your own home and then with your neighbors 4. Being kind and patient in word and deed (even when it is hard) 5. Thinking about others’ needs He had about 4-5 more that he discussed, but he talked so fast I couldn’t write them all down! Some additional ideas I considered afterwards include: 1. Willingness to forgive 2. Not judging others What other ways would you suggest as a good way to measure if on has the pure love of Jesus? Read More →

Do Mormons Teach that Jesus and Satan Were Spirit Brothers?
Where is He?
Wise men of old came from afar asking the timeless question, “Where is he that is born King of the Jews?” (Matthew 2:2). Following the star that they had seen in the east, they were led to where the Christ Child was. Upon their arrival they presented the new born baby with precious gifts of frankincense, gold, and myrrh. Have you ever stopped to wonder why the scriptures never tell us exactly how many wise men came to worship the new born King? Have you ever wondered why there is no mention of their names or identities? I submit that it is because they were not the focal point of the lesson that is being taught. The lesson that is being taught is that Christ is the One upon whom our focus should be centered. Like the wise men of old, we should come near to worship Him. For truly He is worthy of all praise and adoration! As we celebrate this joyous Christmas season, perhaps we need to pause for a moment and take a look around and ask the same question that was asked of old,... Read the rest of this entry »
