Three Mormon women share their talents and their music for this Easter season. Sally DeFord has written several songs that could be used for Easter. Jelaire Richardson wrote a song called, “He’s Been There” (sheet music and MP3 available here). Shawna Edwards wrote “The Miracle” (shared earlier, but we’re sharing it again). Read More →

Inspirational Easter Messages
He is Risen: Inspirational Easter Messages of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) Just in time for Easter, watch and share a new Christ-centered message,”He is Risen.” Ponder what the Savior means to all humanity—and to you personally. And then share the good news. The Life of Jesus Christ Bible Videos: He is Risen There’s been some waning in our secular culture of the significance of sacred days and a disappearance of reverence for or understanding of God and His Son, Jesus Christ. We live our lives on the surface of frenetic activity, quick fixes, shorter attention spams, abbreviated communications, and sometimes lose the depth of seeking and communication with the spiritual truths that matter most. This week has often been a time to slow down and ponder and remember the story of Christ, in particular, the victory over death and sin that He alone has provided for each of us! It’s a glorious time of hope and remembrance. It’s a time... Read the rest of this entry »
Easter celebrations
Happy Easter! The Easter Bunny does not come to our house. He never has. I don’t know why he doesn’t seem to know where we live… We will have some Easter candy in the house — probably a common bowl or basket that everyone can munch on during the day. Here are some things we’ll do Easter weekend, though: 1. An Easter egg hunt — We usually do this on Saturday afternoon. We’ll hide plastic eggs (filled with goodies) in the yard and the kids will find them. The kids are getting older, so we may skip this tradition this year. 2. Resurrection cookies — These are those cookies you can make while reading selected verses from the New Testament about the crucifixion and resurrection of the Savior. We’ve done them off and on over the years, but our 11-year-old daughter specifically asked for them this year so we’ll do them. (I’m putting a recipe at the bottom of the post in case you don’t have one.) 3. John 20 —... Read the rest of this entry »
Easter Resources
Easter is Sunday, April 8. Below are some resources you may want to consider using with your family to feel the spirit of Easter. Watch the Church video “His Sacred Name—An Easter Declaration,” which focuses on key words from the scriptural accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John that recount the horrific story of His Crucifixion with words like “rejected” and “mocked.” But it also includes words that portray Christ’s exceptional characteristics, such as “forgave” and “held His peace.” After watching the video, read the text of the video, which has links to make it easy to read each of the scriptures quoted, so you can more fully appreciate the context. Read the article “‘Christ Lives’ Is Always a Message for Easter” in LDS.org’s Prophets and Apostles Speak Today. Read some of the great articles in Church magazines about Easter. Read about the Resurrection in Study by Topic on LDS.org. Read about Easter in the Bible Dictionary. Search... Read the rest of this entry »
Jesus Christ, Lamb of God
Easter is coming in just a few days. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (a Mormon), Easter means much more to me than spring flowers and chocolate bunnies. I am a Christian, with a deep and abiding love for Jesus Christ. As always at this time of year, I feel both profound sorrow and profound joy as I contemplate the sacrifice of our Savior when He took upon Himself all the sins and evil of the world, suffered, and was crucified. It is almost unbearable to remember His sufferings. Yet my heart is filled with overwhelming joy at His resurrection, which brings with it the incredible promise of eternal life. The Doctrine and Covenants, which contains revelations from God given through modern Mormon prophets, uses a beautiful image to describe Jesus’ atonement. Jesus has “descended below all things, …that he might be in all and through all things, the light of truth” (from The Doctrine and Covenants, section... Read the rest of this entry »
We talk of Christ, We rejoice in Christ
2 Nephi 25:26 “And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.” Given that this weekend is General Conference for the LDS Church (click here to learn more about LDS General Conference), I’ve decided to break format from the usual financial gibberish and express my love, appreciation, and gratitude for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. brightcove.createExperiences(); I am forever grateful for the love He showed us, in providing us the opportunity to be redeemed from our sins and experience eternal life and salvation. I am also extremely grateful that He was willing to suffer and bleed and die and bare all manner of afflictions in order to make it possible for us to overcome our own sins and afflictions. I know that Christ lives and that he atoned for our sins and understands the burdens that each of... Read the rest of this entry »
The Twelve Apostles Speak Today
This weekend, the Twelve Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ will be speaking to the world during the worldwide General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Members of the Church, who are also known as Mormons, will gather in meetinghouses and homes to watch and listen via TV, radio, satellite, and internet. The broadcast originates in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the Church has its headquarters. It is a unique opportunity to learn from the living representatives of Jesus Christ on the earth today. Jesus Called Twelve Apostles to be Special Witnesses During His mortal ministry, Jesus called twelve apostles to bear witness of Him to the people. He chose, from among His disciples, Twelve to whom he gave special priesthood authority: And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease (Matthew 10:1). Jesus then... Read the rest of this entry »
New Easter Song: The Miracle by Shawna Edwards
Jesus Christ is a God of miracles. We read in the scriptures about the many miracles Jesus Christ performed while He lived on the earth. He fed thousands with only small amounts of food. He healed many people of physical and other ailments. He raised people from the dead. He commanded the elements. He walked on water. But the miracles He performed were primarily to help people understand His greatest purposes and divine mission, which were to save the world from death and from sin. The miracle of Easter, the miracle of knowing of and believing in Jesus Christ, is understanding that through Him and His Atonement, we can repent, be changed, have hope, find strength to face our trials. Under the direction of His Father — our Father — Jesus Christ created this earth and came to earth to be the Savior of us all. Because of Jesus Christ, we are rescued from death through the gift of the resurrection; anyone who has lived or will yet live on this earth will live again after death.... Mormon Genealogical Work
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, sometimes referred to as the “Mormon Church” by the media, are well-known for their interest in genealogy. Mormons actively research information about their ancestors, and keep records themselves to pass on to their children. In Mormon temples, members of the Church perform ordinances, such as baptism for the dead, for their ancestors, making it possible for those who have passed on to accept and follow the gospel of Jesus Christ. Mormon Genealogical Research Ever since The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized in 1830, members have actively sought information about their ancestors. One of the main missions of the Church is to work toward the fulfillment of the following scripture, which was repeated several times by an angel to the young Mormon prophet, Joseph Smith, in 1823: Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of...
