Printable Download: $3.95 Listen to The Lord Is My Shepherd Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Tweet  Read More →

Praise to the Man Praise to the Man is one of my favorite hymns (have you noticed how many favorites I have?). I wish I could have put this out last week to commemorate the martyrdom of Joseph, Hyrum, and Samuel Smith. Every time I read the account, I’m deeply touched by everything it implies. I love the detail of the incident recorded in the LDS Institute Manual, Church History in the Fulness of Times. It’s a long account, but I think it’s worth reading: The Tragedy at Carthage The next morning, Thursday, 27 June, “Joseph requested Dan Jones to descend and inquire of the guard the cause of the disturbance in the night. Frank Worrell, the officer of the guard, who was one of the Carthage Greys, in a very bitter spirit said, ‘We have had too much trouble to bring Old Joe here to let him ever escape alive, and unless you want to die with him you had better leave before sundown; . . . and you’ll see that I can prophesy better than Old Joe. . . .’ “Joseph... Read the rest of this entry »

How Great Thou Art I’ve always loved the hymn, How Great Thou Art. I often think of it while walking through the woods or looking at the stars. It’s easy to feel lost in such a big universe, but just think: the Creator of everything is your Father. And He IS great. And to think that His Son is my older Brother, is just amazing. The melody comes from an old Swedish folk tune, but here’s the story behind the the original lyrics, as recorded on Assist News Service: MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA (ANS) – In 1885, a young Swedish pastor named Karl Gustav Boberg was walking home from church when he was caught in a severe thunderstorm, and almost died! He then watched as the storm passed, the sun came out and shone on the waters of the bay, and the birds started singing in the trees. This juxtaposition made him reflect on God’s mighty power and control over nature, and he was inspired (in the literal sense of the word, I believe) to write a poem about what he had... Read the rest of this entry »

Printable Download: $3.95 The Lord Is My Shepherd This arrangement of The Lord is My Shepherd has been floating around in the musical side of my brain for a number of years now, so I’m excited to finally have it done and put onto sheet music. Psalm 23, which is the basis of the text of this hymn, is probably one of the most quoted scriptures in the world, and for good reason. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. As many of you know, I love singing immensely!  And then for those of you that don’t know or haven’t heard about this, you can take a look at a couple of my previous post about music such as Music = Air or Music  . . . It Packs a Punch.  And this past weekend, I was privileged to have one of the most wonderful musical experiences that I have dreamed of for quite some time now.  Growing up I played the piano a bit having started at the age of eight and teaching myself over the years, but the only real singing that I ever did was each Sunday at Church.  By the time I had reached high school, I hadn’t sung in really any choirs or any organized group of any kind, but then during my sophomore year of high school, I made an incredible discovery!  I decided at the beginning of the school year that I wanted to try out for the high school musical, which that year was “HONK!”  I didn’t have a lot to do after school and I always enjoyed watching musicals... Read the rest of this entry »

Beautiful Savior

Posted by On April - 13 - 2010

Beautiful Savior Would you believe that the hymn, Beautiful Savior, was written in the 1600s? Crazy, huh? I’ve always loved the song, and had fun coming up with an arrangement for it. Let me know if you’d like me to make the sheet music available for purchase. I usually choose what music to put on sheet music based on the demand, so let me know if you’d like it in sheet music! Beautiful Savior by Author Unknown, 1677 Beautiful Savior, King of Creation, Son of God and Son of Man! Truly I’d love Thee, Truly I’d serve Thee, Light of my soul, my Joy, my Crown. Fair are the meadows, Fair are the woodlands, Robed in flowers of blooming spring; Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer; He makes our sorrowing spirit sing. Fair is the sunshine, Fair is the moonlight, Bright the sparkling stars on high; Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer, Than all the angels in the sky. Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of Man! Glory and honor, Praise, adoration, Now... Read the rest of this entry »

Amazing Grace The classic Christian hymn, Amazing Grace, was written by John Newton in 1772. John has an interesting story. As a slave trader, John had a profitable career. Later, seeing the error of slavery, he turned his heart and devoted the rest of his life to the abolition of slavery. As one feeling the need for divine grace for his involvement in the horror of slavery, he said, “I hope it will always be a subject of humiliating reflection to me . . . that I was once an active instrument in a business at which my heart now shudders.” Obviously, our actions must reflect our efforts to follow the Savior, Jesus Christ, but all of us, at some time in our lives, come to the realization that there is no hope without His help. Then, once coming upon that beautiful grace and forgiveness, we find that his mercy is a necessary part of our existence every hour of every day. Without the Lord, we have nothing, but with Him we have everything. We can and should do all in our power... Read the rest of this entry »
