Thank You – Anorexia Support

Posted by On May - 27 - 2011

Thank you for the love and support some of you have offered to our anonymous friend who is dealing with anorexia with her daughter.  Your kindness and empathy is deeply appreciated. I’m posting more information on the subject since there is a need and interest in the topic.  Here are two messages (below) that offer comfort, strength and…real understanding!  I hope you will check them out if you feel so to do! We’re all in this together.  Our love and support of one another through trials is what we’ve been sent here to do. Heidi G. First Message:  “A dear friend of mine went through this as a teenager and wrote a book about it.  Here is her website: www.afuturefortomorrow.com. It is one of the best books I have ever read, and THE best dealing with eating disorders.  She is LDS and ties in a lot of the gospel principles in her journey to recovery.  I have recommended this book to everyone, especially... Read the rest of this entry »

Scrapbook Page Covers

Posted by On May - 11 - 2011

Since Ashton leaves in two weeks, my mom requested a baby book for Cassie similar to one I made for Aurora two years ago to display at Ashton’s farewell open house. I used the templates I made for Aurora’s book, and stuck pictures in of Cassie instead. And since we couldn’t just have my two girls with a matching book, I made one for Hope as well. Here are the covers of each of the books: Aurora’s digital scrapbook cover page Cassie’s digital scrapbook front cover Hope’s digital scrapbook cover page I hope they turn out. I keep oscillating between whether it’s tacky to have three similar-looking books, or if it’s brilliant. I guess once we have them together we’ll determine once and for all.  Read More →

Today or Tomorrow?

Brightness of hope. Fear and worry are one of life’s most draining forces.  One day it hit me that fear & worry are where we predict the worst possible outcome and suffer for it ahead of time.  So ridiculous what we do to ourselves, how we bind ourselves up with these two emotions!  They are the opposite of “brightness of hope.” Sometimes we lose our brightness of hope. I wouldn’t say worries and fear are the opposite of love and faith.  Because that belief also says to someone who is worried “you lack love, you lack faith – you fall short.”  It seems more fitting and charitable to realize love and faith have the power to vanquish fear and worry. We have the roots of love and faith within us and sometimes we need to conscientiously tap into those roots and grow them.  We have the capacity for the Garden of Eden wherever we are. So how do we find that inner strength and peace and bring it to its full... Read the rest of this entry »

He Is Not Here

Posted by On April - 25 - 2011

I consider Easter the most important holiday.  Not because it happens to fall on the first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equinox, but because of the empty tomb that it commemorates.  As a youth, I never really captured the importance of the empty tomb.  Just like when Mary looked inside and couldn’t quite comprehend, I didn’t realize that, as Gordon B. Hinckley put so well, “Here was the greatest miracle of human history.  Ealier He had told them, ‘I am the resurrection, and the life’ (John 11:25). But they had not understood.  Now they knew.  He had died in misery and pain and loneliness.  Now, on the third day, He arose in power and beauty and life, the firstfruits of all who slept, the assurance for men of all ages that ‘as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive’ (1 Corinthians 15:22)” The resurrection of Jesus Christ is real and it means that there is hope. ... Read the rest of this entry »

Trusting the Lord

Posted by On March - 16 - 2011

Sometimes trusting that the Lord is in charge, that He is aware, and that afflictions are for our eventual gain can be difficult. Especially when we are right in the middle of our sorest trials. Neal A Maxwell said that one of the greatest objectives in life is to learn patience in the face of irony, injustice and persecution. Consider what Christ says in the Doctrine & Covenants 101: 11 Mine indignation is soon to be poured out without measure upon all nations; and this will I do when the cup of their iniquity is full. 12 And in that day all who are found upon the watch-tower, or in other words, all mine Israel, shall be saved. 13 And they that have been scattered shall be gathered. 14 And all they who have mourned shall be comforted. 15 And all they who have given their lives for my name shall be crowned. 16 Therefore, let your hearts be comforted concerning Zion; for all flesh is in mine hands; be still and know that I am God. Bringing the Spirit into our lives through scriptures,... Read the rest of this entry »

The Waiting Place

Posted by On March - 11 - 2011

Alternate Title for this Post:  “Can I have some Cheese with my WHINE?”  Yep . . . this one’s a venting post. Lately I’ve found myself giving in to feelings which can become all too familiar for those waiting to adopt (or for anyone who is anxiously awaiting anything significant in their life, for that matter): namely- feelings of self-pity, alienation, and impatience. It’s been 27 months since our home study has been approved, or as I automatically equate it with- 3 “regular” pregnancies. Enter Impatience. Looks like we WILL have to wait as long as an elephant for our next child! [Reference to this post where I noted that elephants are the mammals with the longest gestation period of 22 months.] Waiting is hard. And I’m well aware that there are plenty of others out there who have been waiting much longer than I have or will ever have to! Waiting can indeed serve a purpose, but sometimes it feels, in the words of Dr. Suess, like... Read the rest of this entry »

“Belief in a counterfeit Jesus”

Posted by On March - 4 - 2011

Let us not focus on the Book of Mormon, modern day Prophets and Apostles, or even the necessary ordinances of the gospel. The foundation we must build upon is that of Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith stated this: The fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the Apostles and Prophets, concerning Jesus Christ, that [...]  Read More →
