Going Up? Going Down? Maybe Stuck?

Posted by On May - 21 - 2011

Just about a week or so ago, I was feeling a little stuck.  I think that we have all been at a point where we feel so uncertain about ourselves.  Self-doubt is something that Satan really uses in our lives to hold us up and make it so that we can’t get anywhere.  While I was feeling this way, I was reminded of an experience that I had last year.  My companion and I were heading upstairs just after lunch, and we usually take the elevator in our building up to the top floor since that is where we work.  It seemed as if it would be a normal, regular day, but things didn’t quite work out that way.  As my companion and I got into the elevator, I hit the button for the fifth floor while my companion went to lean back in the corner.  As we were approaching the fourth floor, my companion shifted his legs and hit the back wall of the elevator.  At that point, the light indicating what floor we were on went blank and we stopped moving. Yes, that’s right;... Read the rest of this entry »

Oh, Mother!

So, I am being “inspired” to write this partially (a big part, I must confess) by an article/podcast discussion about the issue at MormonMatters.org. Not plagiarizing, but just tossing out some thoughts to consider. I encourage you to get familiar with the article and podcast. The podcast shoots down some stuff that many of us [...]  Read More →

Walk with Faith

Posted by On May - 1 - 2011

Life is difficult.  At times, it can seem overwhelming, insurmountable, and even hopeless.  It doesn’t have to be that way.  You have a choice.  You can choose to be optimistic and hopeful even when it feels like you are walking alone in darkness.  You are never truly alone.  There are unseen forces leading you forward, lifting you, and inspiring your heart and mind.  God and life itself are conspiring together for your happiness and success.  Have faith in Heavenly Father.  Never underestimate his ability and willingness to shower blessings upon you, if you but ask.  He has never failed you in the past, and never will.  He has promised you blessings beyond the limits of your own imagination.  He will not fail you. Life is a wonderful—it has it high moments, its lows, with surprises lurking around every corner.  Though the way be dark before you, never despair.  Trust that God will light the way before you.  Though you know not where the path leads, be assured that He... Read the rest of this entry »

Thanks for Following Me

Posted by On April - 18 - 2011

I’m not sure how to express how rewarding it is for me to have anyone following me.  It’s ‘cool’ (if that is still accepted as part of current vernacular.)  Last night my 13 yr. old daughter informed me that  “LOL” is “way last decade, Mom”.  So, hopefully my readers will understand. Anyway, I wanted to do this “Simply Mormon” blog awhile back to share my personal views of life and the testimony I’ve gained from hard years of personal experience and study. Most of our lives don’t quite turn out as expected, planned, or hoped-for.  Some may.  But, for those of us who have been privileged to learn from hard-knocks, lessons that have humbled and dropped us to our knees, others’ choices (good or poor), and our own personal prayers – I say we’re blessed.  Life lessons can be wonderful and amazing if we learn from them and grow closer to our Father who desires... Read the rest of this entry »

Turn the Light Off

Posted by On April - 11 - 2011

It was the third night my husband was out of town. I just finished watching a waste-of-time chick-flick (didn’t even cry) and crawled into bed.  I looked at the clock.  It was 3AM and I still wasn’t tired.  I decided to write in my journal. As I wrote about my day, I thought I saw something in the hallway, just outside my door.  I put my journal down and squinted at the darkened doorway, unable  Read More →

Image by More Good Foundation on flickr The scriptures talk a lot about keeping prayer sincere – about praying with all your heart, with real intent, and that we should pray fervently every day. We know that an insincere prayer is not as meaningful or as beneficial as the heartfelt, faith-filled prayer. So what do you do when it’s time for evening prayers, and you’re just not feeling into it. Of course it might help to just start praying, and see if you start feeling better about it, but if you’re like me, sometimes it’s hard to be “fervent” when you’re exhausted or in a bad mood. What do you do then? How can you pray sincerely, or with real intent, if you’re just not feeling it? Our Heavenly Father is a person. He’s human – albeit a perfect, all-powerful, omniscient human, but he’s a human being. He knows that we will not constantly have a burning desire to be constantly serving and demonstrating love. But He does want us to talk... Read the rest of this entry »

Cool Beans

I know it’s important to be grateful for everything we have, so I try to do just that. But, there are a few things that I struggle with at times.  Like my mini-van.  Yes, I drive a mini-van.  I buckled back in 2003, bought a red van, and have never looked back.    I loved my red van.  Then I was rear-ended and had to get a another one soon after. It’s the van I still drive. I love the inside.    Read More →

I woke up early this morning, my head swimming with all the things I needed to do today: Get kids ready for school, run errands, clean the house, make phone calls, do laundry, study scriptures and exercise. I must have known that it wasn’t going to go the way I had planned, because I promptly turned over and went back to sleep.  Mistake #1. I stayed in bed too long, and had to rush my middle  Read More →

What Is Spiritual in Everyday Life?

Posted by On March - 11 - 2011

Have you ever run into this question before? Perhaps not as directly put, but I’m pretty sure you have your own ideas of what is and isn’t spiritual. What actually started me off on this train of thought was that I realized I’d heard more than one person declare on more than one forum that [...]  Read More →

The Door is Open

Posted by On March - 5 - 2011

I have a chocolate lab named Tess.  We love her and she is madly devoted to us. She is a sweet dog that has moments of brilliance, but for the most part is not that bright.  For example, often times when open the back door to let her outside, she will walk onto the patio, then turn around and come right back into the house – even when I know she needs to “go potty” (yes, we talk to our dog like  Read More →

Follow the Traffic – or not

Posted by On February - 28 - 2011

I have just spent close to an hour writing a post called Follow the Traffic- only to have accidentally deleted it. At first I was mad.  I put a lot of thought and effort into it.  It was a good one, too! But  I guess I just wasn’t supposed to write about that today. Perhaps I should write about how, sometimes, life just doesn’t go the way we plan- and that’s OK.  There is a higher power, a  Read More →
