My Interview with Mormon.org

Posted by Tim Malone On July - 24 - 2010

On this Pioneer day, I decided to answer all the personal questions that you are asked when you fill out the profile on Mormon.org.  There are a whole lot more under the FAQ section (about 80) but that will have to wait for another day when I have more time.  I thoroughly enjoyed the process of answering these questions and felt like I was being interviewed, thus the title of this blog post. 01. Please explain the part prayer plays in your life? Having grown up with daily prayer, I can’t imagine a day go by in which I don’t communicate with my Heavenly Father in prayer.  We start the day in prayer as a family asking for the Lord’s blessing upon us as we work.  We end the day in prayer the same way, usually kneeling by the bed, reporting our activities to God and thanking him for his help.  We give thanks for the food we eat at mealtimes and participate in public prayers in our weekly worship service.  It is through prayer and reading scriptures that I feel close to God and directed... Read the rest of this entry »

Not long ago I emailed my father with a question having to do with a project I was attempting at my house.  The next morning he was at my door to help get it fixed in spite of the two hour drive to and from. It was a strong reminder to me that my father loves me and is waiting for me to ask for what I need so he can be of service to me. It was also a powerful metaphor for the Father in Heaven we all share; He who wants nothing more than to bless us with His love, His guidance, His forgiveness and all the tender mercies He has in store for us–if we but ask.  There have been many times in my life when my Heavenly Father has blessed me with what I needed and often times, what I have wanted.  These events are particularly close to my heart because they were blessings that showed me how much my Heavenly Father is aware of me as His daughter, of my particular joys and sorrows, and how much He loves me, as He does each one of us. One example in particular stands out more than the rest. ... Read the rest of this entry »

Stop Caring Where You Sit

Posted by TJ On June - 21 - 2010

We gathered for Father’s Day at 5:55 a.m. Nearly every other Sunday at this time the dad in our house is slicing a few pieces of pulla, packing his briefcase and leaving by himself for a day of visiting other congregations as part of his leadership responsibilities in our church. Yesterday, we honored his commitment [...] All Content Copyright (C) 2007-2009 TJ Hirst. First Person: Leaven from Heaven

Posted by MormonWomen On March - 4 - 2010

~by Julie I was recently making a loaf of simple sandwich bread for our lunches. Often, I mix the bread in a bread maker, and then shape and bake the loaf in the oven. I just like it better that way.  As I put the pan into the bread maker, I went over all the ingredients in my head to make sure I had everything: water, honey, brown sugar, salt, flour, and…yeast! I had forgotten the yeast! Without yeast, a loaf of bread bakes up into a hard brick and is unedible.  It never rises, it doesn’t get soft and tender, and it belongs nowhere but the trash. I’ve forgotten to add yeast a few times to my bread, and was always frustrated and disappointed that I wasted my time and the good ingredients on something that no one would enjoy. As I rushed to the fridge to pull out and measure the yeast, I realized a parallel. It’s the same with prayer.  Prayer is the yeast of my day.  It is good to pray over meals, it is wonderful to pray in the evening to take time and express thanks to... Read the rest of this entry »

The Atonement through Jesus Christ

Posted by Timothy Berman On March - 2 - 2010

Easter is a month away and my thoughts are turning to one of the most sacred events in the history of humanity. While our culture and society today has created a more commercialized version of Easter as that of easter egg hunts, the easter bunny, and an excuse to munch on chocolate (as well as [...] AKPC_IDS += "157951,";Popularity: unranked [?] Read More →

Love Please, and Peas

Posted by Candace E. Salima On February - 19 - 2010

Today’s Neighborhood News has Cindy Beck talking about unconditional love in The Heart That Has Truly Loved: “With February being the month for love, I thought I’d post a story I wrote a few years ago. Although the story is based on a true event, the main character’s personality is a figment of my imagination.” Paul, from A Latter-Day Voice brings the thought of Heavenly Father’s love for us in “Unconditional” Love?: “While divine love can be called perfect, infinite, enduring, and universal, it cannot correctly be characterized as unconditional. The word does not appear in the scriptures.” Since the 16th century, royalty dined on peas due to their sweet flavour. Dine like royalty on homegrown peas with these tips on How to Grow Peas: “Cool temperate climates suit peas best. Sow in very early spring, once any heavy frosts are over.” Included in today’s issue is “Free Download Friday” offered by Positive Music... Read the rest of this entry »

A quarter after 4 am. Being a new parent is very challenging, especially when it comes to dealing with a 2 month old. How good of a parent am I going to be? How am I able to raise this child? A recent news article appeared in the Idaho State Journal. This article focuses on billboards that are appearing in Pocatello, Idaho. The subject of these billboards – to promote the long held modern Christian Evangelical perspective that Mormon’s are not Christians. This is typically provisioned with the mantra “We are not attacking the Mormon’s, we [...] AKPC_IDS += "124389,";Popularity: unranked [?] Read More →

~By Catania I have a testimony that I am a daughter of God – that God is my Heavenly Father. I know that Heavenly Father is distinctly aware of me. I know that He loves me. I know that he cares for me. This knowledge has always been with me – at one level or another. Throughout my life, I’ve been blessed with a great father. He has always been aware of my needs and willing to do everything that he can to help me. However, there is one aspect of our relationship that lacks, and it is our faith. I know that my father respects my religion, but I also know that he doesn’t believe it. Nor does he understand how it has motivated many of the choices I’ve made in life. As I have gotten older, I have found that I need to rely on my Heavenly Father for this kind of confirmation. I haven’t always felt comfortable explaining that my reasoning for certain decisions have been based in the way that the Spirit has guided me. Again, I don’t fault my father for this. I understand where he... Read the rest of this entry »
