Its been an interesting few days/weeks/months/years. But today, this is how I am feeling.   More thoughts to follow. For now, bask in the goodness of this song. I’ve seriously listened to it like four times in a row.  “Let’s make this happen, girl you gonna show the world that something good can work and it can work for you.And you know that it will.” -Heather ps. nice live version here too.   Read More →

The Power of the Sacrament

Posted by On October - 25 - 2011

I wrote an essay several years ago on my old blog that still gets a lot of hits even though I retired that blog and transferred everything over here. I’m glad I kept the old blog up because occasionally I get a comment there that inspires me to write something profound. Well, I think it’s at least inspired and uplifting. I felt impressed to share it here. It starts with the comment from Samantha: Hello, I recently started meeting with my Bishop to repent for other sins that I had committed. I was almost ready to get my Temple Recommend when Satan came at me with full-force. I began to engage in watching pornography and masturbation. My Bishop is a wonderful man, but I am far too scared to tell him of the addiction that I am faced with. It is not a daily habit, but it is still a problem. I have prayed, and I have come to realize I cannot overcome this on my own. I feel so awful and depressed after engaging in these behaviors. I want to be clean; I want to go to the temple. thoughts for sunday

Last week at church, I was so touched by our lesson on charity and serving others. I learned about a lady in our congregation who has been really sick and in need of help, and although I wrote down our service coordinators’ number, once I left church I never called, but was so consumed by all my own issues and problems, that I missed the chance to give the service so needed and deserved by that sweet lady.  Its made me think a lot today about who I am, and how I am shaping my life. I want to be a person full of charity and love for others; the kind of person who someone doesn’t need to ask for help, because am aware enough to see need, and fill it where I can.  I’ve found that I too often let my own sorrows and disappointments get in the way of becoming the person who I want to be; a joyful person who values love, service and labor, and lives a life consecrated to blessing the lives of others. -Heather  Read More →

Back In the Day-Big Sister, Little Sister

I was struggling with the right way to introduce you to Kimberly of AalbersCreations (offering my #2 prize package during next week’s A Blogtastic Extravaganza).   And then it came to me… With 8 years between us, Kimberly and I bookend the family of six girls we grew up in.  Sometime after I grew up and she became a teenager we hit a spell of absolute goofiness and practical joking.  For our lives we can’t figure out what triggered it, but to this day our bellies still ache from laughing. Our interpretation of Julie Roberts’ (Runaway Bride) duck-billed platypus  Our shenanigans almost got out of hand.  I hid a mannequin head in bed; she filled my car with a week’s worth of trash. The out and out kicker?  One muddy spring day while she was studiously attending her middle school classes, I moved her bedroom out of the basement and into the backyard.  I disassembled, reassembled, and made up the bed.  Then... Read the rest of this entry »

I love…

Roxy. I’ve pretty much taken the last two days off of work. With graduation and dealing with family stuff, its been nice not to stress about work, and just have time to think and take care of things. Roxy has been so sweet today, she’s been following me around, and whenever I stop moving for longer than 30 seconds, she comes and cuddles up to me.  I think that our puppies have extra perceptual abilities or something, because whenever I feel a bit  sad or overloaded with all the changes we’ve been experiencing, they are always right there to make me feel better.  I love my puppies. What do you love today? -Heather Nips  Read More →

you are always on my mind.

image via Pinterest Well not ‘you’ meaning anyone in particular. I just mean to say that there has been a lot on my mind of late.  One of Justin’s younger cousins passed away this week. He has been sick, and in pain for a long time, so in many ways it is nice to know that he doesn’t have to deal with that pain anymore, but it isn’t always as easy for the people left behind. I haven’t known Andrew for very long, but he was one of the purest, sweetest persons I have ever had the opportunity to meet. To know him was to love him, and have him love you. People like Andrew are so special.  It is beautiful and amazing to me how the passing of a person always seems to produce a reevaluation of ones life, and how that life is lived. It forces people to take a much needed stop from the mundane and endless progression of the day to day and think about someone who has impacted their life, and the things that are really important.  In many ways, life never... Read the rest of this entry »
