I just wanted to share some things I’ve found lately:I don’t like half of what I’m hearing on the typical radio station these days. I either can’t understand what the “singer” is saying or I understand all too well and I don’t want my kids to hear that stuff, thank you very much. There is some good stuff out there but it’s getting harder and harder to find.If you want more inspirational music Read More →

The Journey That My Heart Is On
My husband is in Seattle this week. My boys and I were going to meet him there for the Easter weekend and go exploring on the Olympic Peninsula, but the the weather forecast was for low 50′s and rainy. We’re not going. We were going to go to the Redwoods for my 2-year-old’s birthday, but we didn’t. I wanted to drive to San Diego, leave my kids with family, and go on a cruise this summer before the baby comes. Completely off the table. And the year-long adventure I’ve been dreaming about? Most definitely not going to happen. In full disclaimer, my kids and I are going back to the Sparks Flea Market next month to hang out with my family. I used all my frequent flyer miles and all our free hotel nights to get us there. They were going to waste and it’s not looking like I will be using them for anything else anytime soon…I don’t travel anymore. Would you mind being the bounce board for my... Jumping On Pre-Bandwagon
I’m going on record today to declare I’m voting Ann Romney for next First Lady! I don’t know how that’s going to work since I’m not yet enamoured with her husband, who would obviously have to be elected in order for my vote to make a difference, but every time I hear her speak my heart is stirred and I find myself longing for genuine compassion and transparent values in the White House. I do not necessarily have a bone to pick with Michelle Obama. I believe she’s a great mom and she has championed worthy causes during her time of influence, but she does not inspire me. I won’t go into the reasons why-I’m not sure I’ve investigated them all within myself. What I am aware of is an emotional yearning to be encouraged and led by someone like me. Now, Ann Romney and I obviously are not the same people in innumerable ways. Our upbringing and backgrounds are caverns apart. Our husbands have chosen vastly... Read the rest of this entry »

another happy engaged couple
there is something in the water. because i went on my trip and came home to bling on everyone’s finger! i am so thrilled for all of them! love makes the world go round right? so happy engagement to this fine couple! j.r. is my brother {can’t you see the resemblance?} and we are so happy to add becca to our family! it was a romantic proposal. j.r. surprised her with a candle lit picnic dinner overlooking the valley after a day of snowboarding. they had dodo dinner which was their first date. and cozy blankets to snuggle. j.r. wasn’t too considerate of everyone else thought… he decided to eat dinner before popping the question, so we had to crunch in the cold bushes and wait 45 minutes before we could unveil ourselves. but it’s ok because we love them! so congratulations you two lovebirds! can’t wait for the big day in san diego! Parenting: A Missed Opportunity?
As a parent, once in a while I have an epiphany about how to raise my children. Sometimes I have that epiphany after it is too late. This is one of those moments. A thought occurred to me about how I could have made a subtle shift in the way I taught my children that could bless their lives, and mine too. Sadly, this epiphany came to me after some of my children have already left the nest, and some are at the age where they could be finding their own eternal companions. Here’s my thought: If I could go back in time, I would teach my children a greater love and respect for those who have made their way in life without parents. I am talking about instilling an appreciation for orphans in their hearts. The opportunities are all around. Opportunities for service, for understanding. I’m sure there is a basis in scripture for this. My children are well acquainted with many orphans, but I never took the time to call attention to it. For example, even... happy birthday mother goose
before i get too far into my cruise, i have a birthday to mention… HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY MOM! i was sad to be away for her birthday {march 15} but having this be one of my first texts back was a treat! my mom is the most selfless person i know. she is constantly on the go and doing things for others. on the day we left for the cruise, i forgot the book i wanted to read, which was really my book, but my mom’s book {i was going to sneak steal}. we all met at a friends house to pile in the car and head to cali. but i really really wanted my book. we were waiting on a couple more things so i decided to call her and figure out my book situation. of course she offered to bring it over. when she got there i realized i forgot my pillow. so we went and got my keys from my parents {i left them there in case anything happened and they needed to get into my apartment}. went to my apartment and got my pillow. after getting back with everyone. we realized we had a check we... The Last Words I Heard my Grandmother Speak
***Authors Note: I have had people ask if this is a true story. It is my personal story and yes, it is a true story*** I could barely hear her words as her quivering hands lifted up towards my young face and pulled me close to her mouth. She hadn’t spoken for a long time and it was apparent that she wasn’t going to live much longer. I was just a young man. A boy really. 13 years old. This woman had been a pillar in my turbulent childhood life up until this point and it hurt me to see her this way. Tears streamed down my face as she whispered some of the last words she ever spoke before she died. “You’re my oldest grandchild.” she struggled to say the words, but I understood her as I tried not to sob uncontrollably. “Remember to set a good example for all the younger grandchildren. Live a good life so I can see you in Heaven. I love you.” These words were the last words I heard my grandmother speak. Hours later her tormented... Read the rest of this entry »

Monday Musings: This year’s garden…
New house, new yard, new dirt… new rocks.I thought the soil was poor at our last residence. Um, shut my mouth. This “yard” I have now looks like a moonscape. You can’t get a shovel to sink more than half an inch before hitting a rock. In an effort to turn a negative into a positive, I decided the “parking strip” (where a car is not parked on, but next to) into a “xeriscaped space” (where Read More →
