And so it begins… MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th will mark the beginning of the 3rd annual celebration of The Family: A Proclamation to the World. The celebration will consist of two weeks of non-stop danger and adventure. Well, maybe danger is a little bit of an exaggeration, unless you live in fear of an occasional dangling participle. But there will be some adventure. In a “spiritually adventurous” sort of way. Let me start over… The celebration will consist of two-weeks of soul-filling posts that revolve around the teachings of the Proclamation. This is the third year for this blog event, and it gets better every year. This year, the hosts are: Montserrat of Chocolate on my Cranium Jocelyn of We Talk of Christ Stephanie of Diapers & Divinity And ME. Yes, I am the first man to break the glass ceiling of Mormon Mommy Blogs and co-host this event. (Perhaps that is where the danger comes into play.) Over the course of two weeks, September... A Vlog Announcement
For your viewing pleasure: What? You thought….? Psych! You should know me better than that by now. Yes, it is true. I am co-hosting the Family Proclamation Celebration blog event this fall. It may not be a big deal to you, but it is for me, and it is a giant step for MAN-kind. It is true that last year I participated as a contributor and in the blog hop. These are my posts from last year here and here. And probably one of the more important things I have written without help from my 4th grader, here. September does seem like a ways off, but it will be here quickly. Some of you might have already been asked to contribute a post, or will be. It is a worthwhile, uplifting event. But it is never too soon to get to know the people putting it together. They are: Montserrat of Chocolate on my CraniumJocelyn of We Talk of ChristStephanie of Diapers & Divinity There is also a video project being put together. It is now obvious that I have no skills... Exploring, Applying Principles in the Family Proclamation
It’s the 15th anniversary today of the presentation by President Gordon B. Hinckley of The Proclamation to the World on the Family, a document that, as stated in September’s Visiting Teaching message, “has become the foundation for Latter-day Saint beliefs about the family, a statement to which we can hold fast and know that by living its precepts, we are strengthening our families and homes.” More specifically, the proclamation can help both Mormons and those not of our faith to reflect on and understand Mormon belief about topics such as the following: Marriage Pre-mortal life Our divine identity and potential Our belief in Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother (“heavenly parents”) Gender God’s eternal plan for us Why Mormons believe in having children The divinity of the power of procreation and of the marital sexual relationship The sanctity and eternal importance of human life The rights of children to be born within the bonds of matrimony The... A Father’s Responsibility and The Proclamation on the Family
My husband works extra hard. Right now he is working full-time while attending classes. It isn’t easy for either one of us. There are days where he leaves at 7 AM and doesn’t return until after 11 PM. While I generally throw a pity party for myself during his long days, sometimes a revelation pushes through my sorrow. Last week this happened. In order for us to re-register our car in our state, we must pass a safety test. We failed the test and are required to fix certain things. Expensive things. To afford this, my husband worked 80 hours straight while also juggling classes, papers, and finals. On top of it all, he worried about our little family. He worried about me. Yeah, my overworked husband came home one night and apologized for working so much. I felt more than a little ashamed. The next morning, a sentence ran through my head from the The Family: A Proclamation to the World. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness... The Family: A Proclamation to the World
For many people family is defined uniquely to their experiences. Individuals may come from empty homes, dysfunctional parents, failed marriages, or lost opportunities. These circumstances do not change the importance of families, but rather increases them. Your personal experiences and history do not dictate your future family relationships. These can be and are created by each individual. A family’s most important duty is to love and care for one another in an atmosphere of trust and peace. This is why The Family: A Proclamation to the World is so important. It serves as a description of who we are. The Family Proclamation was written and published by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
