Mitt Romney: Faith in America

Posted by On August - 10 - 2011

Mitt Romney did an interview with the extremely liberal British talk show host, Piers Morgan. Piers really hammered him on the Mormon religion, and Mitt took the stance of John F. Kennedy. On our radio show today we talked about different presidential candidates. Tim really has a problem with Mitt not clearly stating where he stands on issues and how they would or would not effect him if he is the next U.S. president. And let me state very clearly right now, I have not chosen a presidential candidate to support yet. When I do, I will post it on this blog, but until then, I will continue to straighten things out as they come up. I’m really BIG on having no misinformation about any of the candidates. So I started digging and located the transcript of Mitt Romney’s Faith in America speech. I read through it again and feel it bears posting so that people understand where Governor Romney stands on this issue. patterns of clarity

Posted by On August - 8 - 2011

I came home intending to write something of substance before going to bed. Instead my head was buzzing with all the things I want to do before I leave this week. Including the brilliant idea that came to me during church today. I thought I was burned out with creation. Apparently not. Suffice it to say, today was exactly what I needed. Down to the minutia. Not just a talk or a lesson. Like  Read More →

~by Michelle I trudged on the treadmill, gritting my teeth, fighting tears. The workout wasn’t pushing me to my limits. Life was. I could almost feel physical sensations of my soul being stretched. I reached up to God within my heart. I also reached out in thought, reflecting on the faith of those who have gone before — a faith that strengthens my own. Sometimes I will look at the photos of noble ancestors on my wall in times like this. But on this night, there were no faces in mind, just the whole of all the pioneer stories wrapped together. In remembering them, I felt could keep moving, keep walking, keep keeping the faith. I have realized as I reflect on the lives and sacrifices of the Mormon pioneers that the specifics of our journeys don’t really matter — not because the details of our personal pain and triumphs are insignificant, but simply because we all have our trails to blaze, we all have our trials to face. Our stories may differ, but the principles that... Read the rest of this entry »

For God So Loved the World

Posted by On July - 1 - 2011

John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This verse reminds us of the Atonement and how grateful we are that Christ died for us so we could return to Him. However, I do not think we understand the true depth of this scripture. When we are enduring trials not brought about by sin, often the questions “Why me?” or “What did I do to deserve this?” are at the forefront of our minds. Many cease to believe in God on the basis that if He really cared He wouldn’t let terrible things happen to innocent people. Such thoughts are the result of not understanding the plan of salvation, especially the Atonement. Elder Richard G. Scott said in an October 1995 General Conference: Now may I share some suggestions with you who face the second source of adversity, the testing that a wise Heavenly Father determines is... Read the rest of this entry »

Does Your Bucket Have a Hole?

Posted by On June - 19 - 2011

So it has been a while since I have posted anything on here, but I have been working on something for a few weeks now that I wanted to share.  It is not quite finished, and I will continue to add to it in the future but I thought I had better share this.  Just a little while after I got home from my mission, several conversations that I had with people reminded me of a song that I had on a cassette tape when I was little.  It was a song about a bucket and it went something like this . . . I always thought that this song was very silly and it made me laugh when I was little especially the version I had on the tape because the two voices sounded much older and cranky.  As I listened to this song again, I started thinking about how we can just chase our tails around in circles and get nothing done in our lives if we we don’t try to expand our horizons and think outside of the box.  This all comes down to what we really want out of life.  I have... Read the rest of this entry »

Relying on grace, like Peter

Posted by On June - 16 - 2011

A thought occurred to me on Sunday. I was considering Peter (one of my very favorite characters in the scriptures). In Matthew we read about his attempt to walk on the water: And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. (Matthew 14:28-30) I have always read this story as a failure of Peter’s faith (and the Lord in the next verse, after he saves Peter, makes that observation: “O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”). But here is my thought: Peter did have faith. He had faith to climb out of that boat. He had faith to walk on the water. He had faith to follow the Savior (even when he didn’t understand, which was often). But Peter also had weakness. He faltered on the water. Perhaps he was distracted.... Read the rest of this entry »
