Figuring Out Facebook… Still
After two years of playing around on one of the worlds most popular social websites, I am still figuring it out. Just when I think I got it, they change it. So I am pulling the blonde card here. I finally got a fan site up for “5 Nuts in a Nutshell.” I know, I know. It’s about time. Truth is, I didn’t know I could make a fan site for my site… how sad is that. Then someone told me the other day that I really needed to set one up so that people could see when I posted and all that jazz. I thought I would give it a go… and here it is: Click here!!! I don’t worry, I am not going to hate you if you don’t “like” me — I’m just not petty that way. I just thought it would be a great place to post my updates. I also want to thank everyone for voting for “5 Nuts in Nutshell” this week. I feel overwhelmed with all the responses and definitely loved! Read More →

You Like This:How Facebook and Social Media are Taking Over the World
The present population of the United States is just over 300 million. The “population” of Facebook is over 500 million. According to their own press room, that’s just the number of active users. If it were a country, Facebook would be the third largest on earth (China and India being the first). About a year ago, Facebook passed up Google as the most viewed website in the U.S. How long has Facebook existed? Seven years. It was launched in 2004 by 19 year old Mark Zuckerberg as a networking site for college students at Harvard, and by the time it was fully opened to the public in 2006, it was the seventh most popular site on the Internet. Earth’s population is growing at a rate of about 357,000 babies born per day, and Facebook is growing at about double that number of new users per day. One of the big questions that people have is, why? Why is Facebook growing so fast? What’s the big deal? Perhaps the answer lies less in Facebook... Read the rest of this entry »
Perpetual Education Fund on Facebook
Did you know that the Perpetual Education Fund has a page on Facebook in English, with corresponding pages in Spanish for Mexico and Peru, in addition to their website at pef.lds.org? March 31, 2011 marked the 10th anniversary of this great program designed to provide worthy young adults of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with the support and resources necessary to improve their lives through education and better employment to better serve their family, the Church, and their community. Learn more in the article “Perpetual Education Fund Fulfills Prophetic Promises” in the Church News and Events on LDS.org. Several years ago, I served a Church service mission with the Perpetual Education Fund. It was my pleasure to spend one night a week calling students throughout Latin America to check up on their progress in schooling and make sure they were following through on their goals. I could see first-hand how this program provided them opportunities to improve their... Read the rest of this entry »

Read the rest of this entry »
Facebook’s Zuckerberg at BYU: the Internet gives everyone a voice
The Internet gives everyone a voice. Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg and U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch were at the BYU’s Marriott Center this morning for a special technology forum. Zuckerberg spoke about technology and education as Sen. Hatch asked a few of the questions previously submitted through BYU’s Facebook page. It was an interesting forum, relatively short (less than an hour), but the most interesting comment from Mark Zuckemberg for me was when he said that One thing that gets blown out of proportion in our culture is the focus on the single person or the couple of people that are running something. The success of Facebook is all about the team that we built. I think that’s true of any successful company. I couldn’t agree more, but obviously Mark Zuckemberg is a living proof of something that is getting blown out of proportion, but it is not his fault! Read More →
