I would like to expand on a point that I made in my latest post. I talked about how I am tempted think that I am better than others because I have a testimony. This thought was very surprising to me when I first discovered it. A testimony is a personal conviction regarding the truthfulness of gospel principles. For example, I have a personal testimony that Jesus Christ is my Savior; I also have a testimony that the Book of Mormon is true. A testimony can only be obtained by the Holy Ghost. While some people have received their testimonies through an extraordinary manifestation (think of Saul on the road to Damascus, Acts 9:1-9), it seems as though most people, myself included, obtain their testimonies through the quiet whisperings of the Holy Ghost. Although these sacred experiences may seem less miraculous than great manifestations of God’s power, they are no less real in the minds and hearts of those who receive them.
