Written by Daniel Derricott, a BYU student, studying a volume of scripture known as the Pearl of Great Price, which is written by prophets; members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints “Mormons” revere it as sacred text. This post comes from a book within the Pearl of Great Price known as The Book of Moses; it is an extraction from the translation of the Bible as revealed to Joseph Smith the Prophet, June 1830—February 1831. Moses Learns about His Relationship With Heavenly Father In Moses’ vision of God in the Pearl of Great Price (a book revered as scripture by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and in the account of Moses 1:1-23, he learned a great deal about his relationship with God. Moses’ learns it is one of Father and son and of the familial relationship he has with the Jesus Christ, the Messiah. At least four times in these verses, Moses is referred to as a son of God, three of which come from Heavenly Father... Read the rest of this entry »

I Believe In Christ: Are Mormons Christian?
by Nora Hess Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, frequently nicknamed “Mormons,” are avid followers of Christ. A scripture from The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ, which is the religious record of an ancient native people who lived in the Americas for thousands of years both before and after Christ’s birth, puts it this way: And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins (The Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 25:26) A typical Mormon does indeed spend much time every day talking of Christ, studying His words, expressing gratitude and praying to the Father in Christ’s name, thinking about Him, and teaching children and others about Him. Every week during Sunday meetings, committed Mormons partake of the sacrament, where they promise God... Read the rest of this entry »
The Second Coming of Jesus Christ
Just after Jesus Christ ascended into heaven after His resurrection, angels proclaimed to His disciples that He would return again one day to reign on the earth for 1,000 years. From that time to this, Christians throughout the world have eagerly awaited His return. The period of time just preceding Christ’s return is called the “last days.” It is the specified time, period, or age in which the necessary prerequisites to the Second Coming will occur. The Last Days The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (inadvertently referred to at times as “The Mormon Church” by the media) teaches that we are now living in the last days. The last days are the days of the dispensation of the fullness of times that is referred to in Ephesians 1:10, when God will gather together in one all things in Christ. Through Joseph Smith, the founding prophet of Mormonism, all the truth that was made known to all the holy prophets since the world began has been gathered together... Read the rest of this entry »

Gay marriage, another personal take
As someone else already pointed out, marriage ceremony was always between one man and one woman in Judeo-Christian culture, although one man could end up with more than one living wife in several cultures in history (including The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) up to the turn of the 20th century). Mormons in the Media
I can’t believe how much I’ve seen the “Mormons” in the media thesedays. Whether it’s on the TV, news spots, news papers, blogs or internetarticles, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. With an award-winning satiricalmusical with Mormons as their main dish, those “I am a Mormon” TV spots and aMormon running as a GOP Presidential candidate… it kind of begs for all theattention right? Recently I’ve read several articles featuring the “darkside” ofMormonism or how Mormons don’t get the “real world”. Really? I find thesearticles very, for lack of a better word, irritating. Most of the time theyseem like they are grasping to make some point they can’t defend. I get to theend of the article and feel like they are missing their punch line. They gatherthe most random of rumors or the peculiararities of the faith and place themout of context. It seems they just want to point out every bad or strange thingthey’ve ever come across pertaining... Read the rest of this entry »
Mormons’ Focus on Marriage & Family Highlighted in Pew Survey
SMITHFIELD — After dinner, three baths, four bedtime stories and a half-a-dozen goodnight kisses for 2-year-old twins Brock and Isaac and 6-year-old Ellie, Erin and Brian Thompson finally sink into the couch with weary smiles. Being parents is just what they always wanted. And they love it. “Of course we have our crazy moments,” Thompson says, “but for the most part we just try to find the good things in the day and remember that they’re only going to be little for so long.” As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Thompsons believe that maintaining a strong marriage and raising and teaching children are essential keys to happiness and their most important responsibilities on earth. In fact, 81 percent of Mormons say being a good parent is “one of the most important things in life,” according to a new survey by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life — the first survey... What Being a Mormon Means to Me
There are those who have worked or associated with me in the past who have been uncomfortable with my attitude about being a Mormon. Completely unashamed. I do not fear the disappointment of man, but the disappointment of my Savior. Now with Mitt Romney emerging as the winner in Iowa, which is still stunning considering how high the anti-Mormon sentiment runs there, and with a commanding lead in New Hampshire, the nutjobs are crawling out of the cracks and launching all their anti-Mormon balderdash again. Representiave Judy Manning of Marietta, GA said in The Marietta Daily Journal: “I think Mitt Romney is a nice man, but I’m afraid of his Mormon faith,” Manning said. “It’s better than a Muslim. Of course, every time you look at the TV these days you find an ad on there telling us how normal they are. So why do they have to put ads on the TV just to convince us that they’re normal if they are normal? … If the Mormon faith adhered to a past philosophy of pluralism, multi-wives,...
