Printable Download: $3.95 Listen to The Lord Is My Shepherd Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Tweet  Read More →

I’ve been trying to get around to recording this one for awhile. The audio isn’t perfect quality, but you get the idea what it sounds like. Let me know if you’d like me to make this available in sheet music! Tweet  Read More →

Image by More Good Foundation on flickr The scriptures talk a lot about keeping prayer sincere – about praying with all your heart, with real intent, and that we should pray fervently every day. We know that an insincere prayer is not as meaningful or as beneficial as the heartfelt, faith-filled prayer. So what do you do when it’s time for evening prayers, and you’re just not feeling into it. Of course it might help to just start praying, and see if you start feeling better about it, but if you’re like me, sometimes it’s hard to be “fervent” when you’re exhausted or in a bad mood. What do you do then? How can you pray sincerely, or with real intent, if you’re just not feeling it? Our Heavenly Father is a person. He’s human – albeit a perfect, all-powerful, omniscient human, but he’s a human being. He knows that we will not constantly have a burning desire to be constantly serving and demonstrating love. But He does want us to talk... Read the rest of this entry »

Here is a statement issued by the Facebook admin’s over at Challenging anti-Mormon Apologetics page. This comes in light of the fact that a fellow member who posted over at Challenging Mormon Apologetics was recently banned for not following the rules: Don has been banned from CHALLENGING MORMON APOLOGETICS for not limiting himself to NON-LDS [...]  Read More →

One of the labels that the counter-cult groups and ministries slap onto the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is that of being cult like. It is also not uncommon to find many of their followers/subscribers who read, and participate in dialogue on the forums, state that one of the Trademarks of a Cult [...]  Read More →

"What Would Your Life Look Like If. . ."

Posted by On February - 24 - 2011

“What would your life look like if you took your love to your loved-ones, and your frustrations to the Lord (instead of vice-versa)?” Such was the introduction to an amazing hour spent with John & Bonnie Lund, who visited our Stake for a fireside, just this last Sunday evening. I’m so glad I went. I was feeling a little weary that afternoon/evening, and was of two minds to go. Knowing what I know now, skipping out would have been a great loss to me. Here are some notes I took (the fullness which can certainly be found in Bro. Lund’s published works). Love and trust are not one and the same. Trust is based on consistent good choices. We’ll never carry out the Lord’s way by using the Devil’s methods. See D&C 121: 39-46 for the Lord’s method. Nephi was blessed for not murmuring. See 1 Nephi 3: 6. D&C 93:39 Many of the mistakes we make in our relationships are the result of incorrect “teachings of [our] fathers.”... Read the rest of this entry »

The Soul’s Captain

Posted by On February - 19 - 2011

Everyone’s heard William Henley’s Epic poem, Invictus, which goes: Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul. But have you ever heard Orson F. Whitney’s response to it? Love it, love it, LOVE IT! Art thou in truth? Then what of Him? Who bought thee with His blood? Who plunged into devouring seas And snatched thee from the flood, Who bore for all our fallen race What none but Him could bear– That God who died that man might live And endless glory share. Of what avail thy vaunted strength Apart... Read the rest of this entry »

"You Can Make It"

Posted by On February - 2 - 2011

The following I share, upon request, as a Sacrament talk offered in my current capacity as Second Counselor in the Stake Young Women’s Presidency. “You Can Make It.” When I was a teenager, the thought occurred to me, “What if my parents meant well in raising me as a member of the LDS Church, but what if they were wrong, and the whole thing is some kind of fairy tale? How will I know if it’s true, and if it is, how am I doing?” Dallin H. Oaks spoke about the difference between testimony and conversion, “Testimony is to know and to feel; conversion is to know and to become.” As w/ most members of the church, my conversion process began in the manner described by Alma: 26-27. The answer to my question, “Is this the true Church?”, has distilled as it did for Peter: Matt. 16:17 “For flesh and blood hath not brevealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” As I have “proved” the Lord, my confidence in its truthfulness... Read the rest of this entry »

This touching music video from Becky Kelley Where’s the Line to See Jesus? is sure to help everyone who hears it get in the right frame of mind for Christmas. The true story behind the music: “Where’s the Line to See Jesus?” While at the mall a few years ago, Becky’s then four year old nephew, Spencer, saw kids lined up to see Santa Claus. Having been taught as a toddler that Christmas is the holiday that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, he asked his mom, “where’s the line to see Jesus”? Becky’s sister mentioned this to her father, Steve Haupt, who immediately became inspired and jotted some words down to the song in just a few minutes. After putting music to the words, and doing a quick home recording, he received a great response from friends. Her father asked if Becky wanted to record the song to see what could happen with it. Becky listened to the song, made a few changes and headed to Shock City Studios. It was... Read the rest of this entry »

Printable Download: $3.95 The Lord Is My Shepherd This arrangement of The Lord is My Shepherd has been floating around in the musical side of my brain for a number of years now, so I’m excited to finally have it done and put onto sheet music. Psalm 23, which is the basis of the text of this hymn, is probably one of the most quoted scriptures in the world, and for good reason. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
