~by Candace I know this is the true Church of our Savior Jesus Christ and that we are led by a living prophet, Thomas S. Monson. My story: My life challenges started at a very early age. I was eight years old when I was first molested. He was a friend of the family and I had a child’s love for him. He broke my heart and severely injured my spirit. Unable to tell my parents, my trust of people around me was shaken. I became very insecure and frightened of life. When I reached my teens, my insecurities and lack of participation in school activities became evident and a concerned counselor started drawing me out and I felt comforted by his concern. But, once again my life was jolted when he betrayed my trust. One day he offered me a ride home. I accepted his kind gesture. I soon realized he had other intentions. We took a ride into the hills near our town and the unspeakable happened. Once again I was shaken to the core and afraid to go to my parents. I had no idea how to deal with any... When Bad Things Happen to Good People: One woman’s journey to overcome the effects of abuse and addiction
Gospel for thought
Thought-case: A stranger walks up to the missionaries, states that he is moving to a place for the rest of his life where the church will never be. He wants to get baptized but doesn’t have a testimony of the church. Do you baptize him or not? If he is baptized what benefits/blessings would he receive for being baptized? What is the intrinsic value of being baptized? Without testimony, without passing D&C 20:37 or batismal interview questions, as if they don’t exist, what effect would being baptized have on a person? They will receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost and (those who are within church contact) get connected to the church. End question: Is it better for a person to be baptized than not? Read More →
The endowment is more than the ordinances
The endowment that we receive in the Lord’s temples today is not the complete endowment that the Savior intends us to have. The ordinances introduce us but the endowment is not complete until we have come into the heavenly presence and have been instructed in the things of eternity. You may ask, “If there is more to the endowment than what I have been taught in the temple, then why hasn’t someone explained it to me?” A careful reading of scripture revealed in these last days contains all we need to know to fully understand that there is more, much more to it. The redemptive mission of the Savior In his role as our Redeemer, a primary mission of the Savior is to baptize us with the Holy Ghost and with fire. He did not complete that mission with his disciples in Jerusalem while he was among them, explaining that he had to go away first in order for them to receive this sacred gift. He also said that his apostles would do greater works than he did. In other words, they would... Read the rest of this entry »
How do we mourn with those that mourn?
When Mormons are baptized, we enter into a covenant with God to keep His commandments and to remember the Savior. Part of what that covenant means is captured in some verses from the Book of Mormon: we should be “willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light; Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort” (Mosiah 18:8-9). So aside from the rather obvious feeling sad at funerals for families who have lost loved ones, what does this passage really mean? Especially in our often self-reliant attitude, how do we bear one another’s burdens? How do we comfort those who stand in need of comfort? These questions came to mind as I read the third part of an interesting series on clinical depression over at the By Common Consent blog. Some of the commentary there points out that sometimes we are better at mourning and offering comfort when the need for it is in the past tense, and I wondered why that... Katie’s Baptism
Last weekend we had the happy event of baptizing Katie. Many of our friends and family were able to travel to Twin Falls that day to support Kate in her decision to be baptized, receive the Holy Ghost and become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Here she is in her new White Dress. We are all so proud of her. She is making correct choices and truly does want to follow Heavenly Fathers plan and keep His commandments. We have had several Family Home Evenings over the past months to prepare her for this point in her life and she has really worked hard to learn everything she needed to know to get Baptized. Several times she has come up to me to tell me how the church is organized and also what covenants are made at baptism. She has excitement in her eyes and was a very good example to her younger cousins. We are so blessed to have such wonderful children. We hope and pray that we can keep them on the straight and narrow path as it leads to missions, endowments... Read the rest of this entry »
Biblical Doctrine or False Mormon Doctrine?
The following is a question for anyone to discuss. Whether you are a Born Again Christian, a Mormon, or a person of another religious faith, this question is simple. Is the following statement a False Mormon Doctrine or a True Biblical Doctrine? This is not a “yes or no” question. The purpose of this is [...] Read More →
The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles
This beautiful video about the Savior was sent to me by LDS Principles. The inspiring music is by vocalist Jenny Philips. The words below are taken from The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles and can be found at http://jesuschrist.lds.org. He was the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament, the Messiah of the New. Under the direction of His Father, He was the creator of the earth. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made (John 1:3). Though sinless, He was baptized to fulfill all righteousness. He went about doing good (Acts 10:38), yet was despised for it. His gospel was a message of peace and goodwill. He entreated all to follow His example. He walked the roads of Palestine, healing the sick, causing the blind to see, and raising the dead. He taught the truths of eternity, the reality of our premortal existence, the purpose of our life on earth, and the potential for the sons and daughters of God in the life to come. He instituted the sacrament... Read the rest of this entry »
My First Communion
One of the things that I am most grateful to my parents for is exposing me to many different religions and faiths. As a youngster, I took seriously the call for every member to be a missionary. I loved inviting my friends to church with me. Some of the friends that I invited to church didn’t regularly attend any church, but some of them did. One thing about LDS Primary is that it is a lot of fun, and some of my friends often wanted to forgo their church meetings and attend church with me for that reason. This didn’t often go over well with their parents, so my parents often suggested that each time they sent their child to church with us, my parents would send me to church with them the following Sunday. Or my friend and I would attend church at the LDS Church and also at the church my friend attended in the same Sunday, if time permitted. The latter often led to a really long Sunday, but I learned so much from it. When I was turning 8 years old and was preparing to be baptized,... Read the rest of this entry »
Essay #1: A Convert’s Testimony
Contributors may share their answers to the question, “Why am I a Mormon?” in many ways. Today’s submission comes as an essay from the blog of a Church member who calls himself Cowboy Roy. Why am I a Mormon? I am said to be a convert. That means that I was baptized into the Church as an adult, but we are told that we will not know if we are truly converted until we are across the veil (after death) and the Holy Spirit of Promise (Eph 1:13-14) tells us “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” Until then we are only trying to follow our Savior ever more perfectly until we either get it right or we die. In the Church we have a scripture that reads: “For I will forgive you of your sins with this commandment…that you remain steadfast in your minds in solemnity and the spirit of prayer in bearing testimony to all the world of those things which are communicated unto you. Therefore, “go ye into all the world” and unto whatsoever place ye cannot go ye shall go... Read the rest of this entry »
Church Records
Church records consist of records recorded by a church. In many foreign counties there is a state religion. For example if you are researching in Scandinavia the state religion is Lutheran, in Spain and Italy it is Catholic. In the United States however we do not have a state religion. Church records are kept by many different faiths. The most common religious records found in the United States are: Baptists & Episcopalians, Congregational, Roman Catholic, Methodists, Quakers and Lutherans. Of these religious records the most helpful will be those religions that recorded a christening or baptism shortly after birth. Baptism or Christening records will include information about the child’s name, parents names, residence, date of event and godparents or witnesses. Marriage records will include the names of both the bride and groom, residence, date of event and witnesses. Burial records will include a name, age and possibly the cause of death. Church records are a great source! These... Read the rest of this entry »

Tytto_19 from Finland will be baptized on Saturday
Tytto_19 will be baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly known as the Mormon Church) on March 17, 2008. We are so happy for her. I’m so thankful for Mailis and all she does to fellowship the LDS.net members and the missionary work she is doing in Finland. Tytto was curious about the Mormon Faith and was doing some internet research on the subject. Her research led her to an anti-Mormon forum. However, she felt mislead by the information she was receiving and sought out other Mormon sites, which led her to LDS.net. Through the friends she made on LDS.net site, she decided to contact the Missionaries. She gained a testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ and has decided to be baptized.
