Your book is about to be published, now what do you do? When you received word that your book was going to published, the excitement which poured through you was tremendous. As the rewriting, editing, and final edits commence, the cover design, etc. there comes that moment when you realize, as much as you wish it were different, that all the marketing, branding, booksignings, schedulings are all on your shoulders. That can be a very daunting thing. But lucky for you, Candace Salima has been there, done that, and has developed a day-long training which will give you all the knowledge she had to gather for herself. At the conclusion of this training, you will have the knowledge you seek, and will only have to put in the blood, sweat, and tears to make it happen. Marketing your book well will guarantee your success. The harder you work, the more it gets out there, the happier your publisher will be. It’s a win/win. Let me teach you how to make yourself a successful author. Saturday... Read the rest of this entry »

Host: Tim AaldersCo-Host: Candace SalimaGuest: Chris Stewart On June 20th, Tim Aalders and I will be interviewing author Chris Stewart on Buy Back America Radio. I, for one, am very excited. I’m a big fan of his writing, and have all of his books, I think. However, his latest book blows them all out of the park. 7 Tipping Points that Saved the World. Wow, what a book! Put it on your calendar and be sure to tune in! “Imagine a world with the means of mass destruction–nuclear warheads, biological weapons, chemical and conventional attacks–held... Read the rest of this entry »

I am thrilled that Tim and I will be interviewing NYT best-selling author, Steve Berry on our Buy Back America radio show on June 7th. I adored his latest book: The Jefferson Key. It was a page-turner that kept me up until the wee hours of the morning. It’s a must-read and I recommend it to one and all!  I found a wonderful article on Steve Berry, where he talks about turning failure into success. I really wanted to share with my fellow bloggers. It is good. So I’m stepping away from politics for the moment, and delving back into the world of literacy which is my first love. As published on Evergreen Park Patch: New York Times Best Selling Author Steve Berry speaks candidly about perseverance and his long awaited road to success at the Evergreen Park Public Library Thursday night. By Amanda Edwards If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, again; famous words that accurately describe American novelist, Steve Berry and his award-winning writing career. I am so completely stoked. My publisher, Valor Publishing Group, is da’ bomb. How many publishers out there do Author Training? Can those publishers even be counted on more than one hand? What does an author get trained in, you ask? Talk, Give, Make, Meet, Fix, Listen, Help, Look, Say, Answer, Write, Go, Read, Learn. (OK, so those are code words. I have been advised I can’t tell you what we really did.) HOLY SMOKING PRINTING PRESSES BATMAN! Dudes… Dudettes… If you have a manuscript ready to go… if you have some guts… you owe it to yourself to check out Valor’s submission requirements. I feel like I have joined the Rangers or Seals of the publishing world. I have never felt so cool in my life… until today. One parting note:  As of this morning, Valor has my book ready for PRE-ORDERS!!! Check it out:  http://www.valorpublishinggroup.com/Books/the-thorn.php SOMEBODY PASS ME THE OXYGEN  Read More →

Recently, I have spent a fair amount of time reading about social media and promotion. Whereas social sites like Facebook and Twitter used to be the magical realms where only the brave, computer savvy individual would dare tread, more and more people have started to ride the wave. But individuals are not the only ones who have taken notice. Businesses are starting to build and manage their own accounts on these sites so that they can quickly and efficiently disseminate information to their followers. And I am not talking about just BIG business, either. Small mom-and-pop operations, artists, musicians, marketers, insurance agents, professionals in every industry . . . they are all participating. I have been no different–because I have seen the power (wisely used/not abused) of these sites when people with large followings use the mediums to keep in touch with their peeps and tweeps. This brings me to my subject about BRANDING. I have started a list on twitter where I am following... Read the rest of this entry »

Today is the Day!

Posted by On November - 3 - 2009

It’s a little hard to believe. Several years ago, when I began contemplating opening a publishing house, even I could not have imagined that the day would arrive when my publishing house signed Attorney General Mark Shurtleff as our first author. Stunning! Even more so, never could I have imagined that the great-great granddaughter of Dred Scott would fly in to help Mark celebrate the release of this incredible book about her ancestor. You will get the opportunity to not only meet and hear from Mark Shurtleff tonight, but also Lynne Jackson as she shares with us a little bit about Dred. Today is the National Book Launch Party introducing Am I Not a Man? The Dred Scott Story to the nation. Mark will be at the Barnes & Noble at The Gateway in Salt Lake City tonight. (Details at the end of this post.) We, at Valor Publishing Group, really sat down and pulled together a real party. Something fun, entertaining, enlightening, inspiring, tasty and you’ll walk away with a copy of... Read the rest of this entry »
