Don’t get me wrong, I still think of self-publishing as a publishing, and I have nothing against it – but I had no idea how excited I would be when I opened an Email from Cedar Fort at work that said, “We are pleased to inform you that we would like to publish your work… Congratulations!” What? “We are pleased to inform you that we would like to publish your work… Congratulations!” “Holy cr**! This is for real!” I’m almost embarrassed to say I was giddy. I would have immediately jumped up and done the Myposian Dance of Joy, but at the time I was filming a girls basketball game (no seriously, don’t laugh, that’s my job), and I didn’t want to be mistaken for one of the cheerleaders – especially since my team was losing pretty bad. So I saved the Dance of Joy till I got home. Just to let you know, too, this isn’t the Mission book (Giraffe Tracks) I’ve talked about on this blog that I self-published... Mormon.org Launch
Mormon.org–a newly redesigned site of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons, LDS) has launched today! A rich, lucid venue through which thousands of voices of genuine, everyday Mormons join the online conversation, Mormon.org address questions often asked by friends of other faiths. Responses are individualized, submitted by authentic faithful members of the Church. They appear in brief snippets or a few paragraphs of thoughtful reflections and personal witnesses of doctrinal beliefs, with accompanying personal photos. This personal outreach by unofficial voices is matched with some official responses to questions by the Church leaders. The blend and diversity of profiling and messaging is intended to open up genuine dialog and communication with online seekers and curious onlookers–you can “meet the Mormons” over the virtual fence. An initial group of 2,000 have not only already posted profiles visible to the public, but have added explanations... Read the rest of this entry »

So far, it’s available in: Softbound book Hardbound book PDF download Kindle book or you can Read a Sample I was hoping to release the audio book at the same time as the book release, but couldn’t have it ready in time. If there is a format that you would want to buy it in that is not listed above, let me know. I’d like people to be able to buy it in whatever format they want, even if it’s .doc, .jpg or even .mov (that would be interesting). If you’re willing to buy it in a certain format, I’ll make it in that format and sell it at the same price as any digital text format. I’m publishing it through Willowrise Press, which is my family’s... Read the rest of this entry »

Mormon Church reaffirms its position supporting Gay Rights
“In a rare public appearance before Salt Lake City lawmakers Tuesday night, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints supported two proposed ordinances protecting gay and lesbian residents from housing and employment discrimination.” “The church supports this ordinance because it is fair and reasonable and does not do violence to the institution of marriage,” said Michael Otterson, managing director of the LDS Church’s public affairs office. View full story – Mormon Church supports Gay Rights. The statement is not new. This has been the Church’s position and it is consistent with prior statements regarding gay rights and marriage, which can also be found in the Church’s August 2008 statement, “The Divine Institution of Marriage.” “I represent a church that believes in human dignity, in treating others with respect even when we disagree — in fact, especially when we disagree,” said Otterson. “Our language... Mormon Church planning new youth website
Sample the New LDS Youth Site This is an article adapted from ldsmediatalk.com created by the technical staff at Church headquarters: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is gathering feedback from some of the youth of the Church about what kind of web site the Church could build that would bring youth closer to the Savior and help them feel more connected to the Gospel and to the Church. Share Your Voice Online: Adopt a Site
The More Good Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to enabling everyday members of the Church to share their voice online and have a positive impact on the content that honest seekers find when they “Google” us! Here’s a new way you can help — by adopting one of our websites. You can adopt one of our existing websites in an area of your interest and we will train you on how to ‘care for, grow, and nurture the site’–it can be your own or a group’s ‘pet project’ so-to-speak. We’ll show you how to upload content, photos, videos, posts, if you don’t already know how to do those things. You don’t have to create the design or template, or host the site. We do that. You do not even know how to operate a site or upload content. We can show you that too. You do need to know how to type and have an interest in a particular topic that you would like to have shared online as a Mormon, and have a desire to add positive... Read the rest of this entry »
New LDS Website Discusses Pregnancy, Abortion, and Adoption
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints launched a new website during the summer of 2009 called ItsAboutLove.org. The site is comprehensive and deals with pregnancy issues, especially those of unwed mothers-to-be. The site includes pregancy advice, but also treats the choices that ensue after a young woman discovers she’s pregnant, hopefully, to make those choices easier. The site frankly discusses abortion and adoption. Young women who have made tough choices are interviewed on the site, and there is also advice from counselors and LDS Church leaders. There are links provided to LDS Family Services and to places that can provide more help. Read More →
