It’s been two months since a friend of mine asked if I wanted to attend a women’s conference called “Time Out for Women” with her. I jumped at the chance. My whole 13 years of marriage, I have never had a girls’ getaway. Having just received our tax return, I gave her the money right away so I wouldn’t have a chance to back out. I needed this for so many reasons.
First: I need the break. Just to get away.
Second: I no longer get to attend Relief Society (or women’s class at church) because I play the piano in Primary (our kids’ Sunday school) and I really need some uplift.
Third: The messages are on hope. This has been an especially discouraging time for me and I can’t think of a theme that is more important for me to hear.
Tomorrow I get to jump in the car with a couple of my friends and chit chat for the next five hours while we head to the Marriott. After the meetings we attend (in casual dress – woo hoo!), we’ll get to have dinner and work on whatever we bring with us. My friends will most likely be scrapbooking. I’m not a scrapbooker, so I’ll have to come up with something creative. I suppose if I had a laptop, I could blog. Instead, I will bring a notebook to journal in so I can record the feelings that are still fresh in my mind. I also plan on painting my neglected toenails without any children around to grab at my bottle of nail polish.
I have heard about Time Out for Women quite a few times, but I became more interested when a friend told me about one she went to. One speaker really spoke to her and she needed to hear that it’s OK to say no and that you don’t have to give a reason. Reasonable people won’t demand it. I can’t wait to report the things that I hear when I get back and hopefully I’ll be able to share something valuable with someone else.
I am so excited. To make the weekend more fun for my family, I bought a movie as a surprise and some treats. I hope it’s a good weekend for my whole family. I’m definitely going to miss their beautiful faces.
Have any of you ever been to Time Out for Women? Tell me about it!
