New Year’s Resolution

Posted by On December - 28 - 2009

jesus_the_christ-_del_parsonI have thought a lot about how I want my life to change in 2010.  I don’t want to think of New Year’s resolutions as a temporary goal and the last couple of years, I made many goals for myself because I figured I could accomplish at least one of them.

There are plenty of worthy goals:

Losing weight

Getting organized

Pay off debt

Learn a new hobby

But I’ve decided what I want is to get closer to Christ.  As our bishop spoke on Sunday during our Christmas program, he said that we can’t become like Christ if we don’t know Him.  That keeps playing through my mind.

So my goal for 2010 (and every year after) is to become closer to Christ.  I need to get back into the good habits I used to have and lost for one reason or another.  As a family, we just started reading the New Testament and I am really looking forward to it.  Some other plans I have:

To pray morning and night.

Have personal scripture study and keep a journal of the thoughts that come to me.

Attend our stake women’s scripture study group.

Go to the temple at least once a month – make it a big priority even if it means getting a little less sleep.  I can sacrifice some sleep once a month.  I can get up early on a Saturday and get home just as my family is waking up.

There are so many needs and wants I have right now.  There are so many things I need to work on.  But if I accomplish the goal of becoming closer to Christ, I think many things will fall into place.  It will help me feel more peace and perhaps more patience, help me keep an eternal perspective, to make the right choices more often, and give me a happier home.

What are your spiritual goals for 2010?
